Should i stay here ?

Hello everybody, this is my first post here allthough i have been reading daily for the last 4 monthsish. I have a huge dillema that i would like help with. im 19 years old and have been in the job for 8 months now and i like the job and the hours(22.5 although i regulary do 32.5). i have been offered a new job, working 9 till 5 at a place where they will put me through college and train me etc.. but the hours are 40 a week andi will only get paid 140 a week. i would just like to know what my future prospects are here at the royal mail and ifi have any chance of ever going full time and if there is anything else you would like to suggest i would be veryhappy to hear from you

At £3.50 per hour your better off with Royal Mail surely

More money for not far off half the time . No brainer .

At your age you should be looking at the long term.

Do you really want to be delivering letters for the rest of your life?

Get yourself a proper job son.

College, training, it's a no brainer, even if it is a drop in money . You'll be better off in the long term.

i'll go with that mate. I've done 30+ years in the job and it is dying on its knees. I would not have liked to see my children coming into the job and fortunately they didn't. You've got the best part of 50 years working in front of you - make the most of it ! Good luck !

Anyone paying £3.50 to someone over 19 YOA is breaking the law it should be the minimum of £4.77 http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nmw/#a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If they're prepared to break the law then it's best if you give them a miss.

If i was you i would go with apprenticeship, because looks like part timers will NEVER get a full time contract, RM are trying there bests to get rid of full timers, the job is going down hill as time goes on.

On one hand their is no longterm future at RM at present and the chances of going full time are proably remote at present.

But dont jump out of the frying pan to the fire,their are many things in RM that are ok but could be worse.

If your new job can give you guarnteed training ans a proper official Apprentership ,all of wich you must have in writing first not empty pmrossies,then go for your new job but check the minium wage certain condintions do not aply etc,so check out your personal circumstances to see if you are covered.Before you make a decision ,in your new job the Training is the carrot,so check all this out first and get it in writing.

If your new employer looks finanvial stable,not likely to go bust in the near future as far as you can tell,all the training looks ok and in writing then go for your new job.

A third option RM is a major concern with lots of Departments,whilst transfers are not easy,do RM have a department in your area of intrest,would RM be willing to train you,
if the answer is Yes and you can get in Stay with RM.,they must be a lot more stable than a smaller company.

Its always going to be a gamble but at 19 with a chance of college training i would go for it.

Follow your heart OP. You wont go far wrong that way! You could always stay at RM an hold out for something better, either within Royal Mail or go elsewhere?

After checking all the facts on both side,go with above,has to be best one for you good or bad.

There are 6 part timers at my office been trying to get full time contracts for the past 4 years..
