Hot Weather Preperation?
Although its been mentioned before on this forum some time ago,now I think serious thought should now be given if we have a hot summer wich is a possibility.
With deliverieries beening pushed to their limits, and some on 4.15 hrs and doms keeping staff back from leaving the office till 10am wich they are allowed to,you are going to be working in the hottest part of the day.
Its all very well saying take a drink with you,but the size of the walks now,the speed needed to complete on time ,in hot weather we could have serious problems.?

brothermagrew is the man for that but it'll be interesting to know if it creates a dangerous working environment (out in the sun at peak times) which I'm sure the HSE would like to know about.

No but if the HSE get involved then they have to do something (more than the 'plan your walk so that you only walk in the shade' advice that we got last year), plus, it's bad publicity if people start collapsing from heat stroke (which I almost did last year after only a couple of hours without my cap).jockstrapp wrote:AND ROYAL MAIL GIVE A TOSS

Unfortunately unlike working in cold tempertures there's very little regulation with regards hot. The usual stipulation is that a reasonable stop/start schedule is implemented with sufficient fluid intake. Bear in mind that these implementations are common for extreme tempertures in things like boiler houses industrial drying areas etc. not working outdoors in an English Summer.

And also bear in mind, that it's not just Heatstroke you have to worry about. Even with Sunblock, there is the risk of Sunburn.

Yip, there have been a few people in our office who've had cancerous ulceres removed from their face.andy2007 wrote:And also bear in mind, that it's not just Heatstroke you have to worry about. Even with Sunblock, there is the risk of Sunburn.

Shouldnt there be air conditoning as standard in the vans. Come the hot weather and these vans become like ovens. You get out to walk in a lovely warm day and then climb in the van. The heat is oppressive and the sweat starts running off of you then you get out again, cool down a bit and then heat overload when you go back into the van. Heat exhaustion springs to mind. 3 years ago when there was a hot spell, I was consuming more than 2 litres of water during my delivery because I was basically doing a large town walk in a van (DOM calls this a rural

So what's this 'summer' thing? Can you imagine your DOM's face? Most are surprised that Christmas comes around every December. Take your own precautions, RM will only mess it up.

I am sure royalmail are just hoping for a hot summer as natural wastage will come into play big time and will cut the redundancy payouts if that fails we await their final solution!.
