Post by naked_mc »

I've only just started with royal mail in May of this year i signed up to the union straight away and things were going ok i was getting paid for over time like you should, then the union rep left and now im getting asked to go to other offices and told i will get paid for millage but it takes mounths and certain managers forget to pay overtime for weeks even mounths im at the end of my tether now because my pay was stoped for absense for one day and the manager has only just this week reported it so i have no pay, no mileage pay, no over time and im just wanting out. Why should we work our soaks off for nothing can some one please help me! I always wanted to be a postman but my mind has changed so quickly.

You may have a case under the Illegal Witholding of Wages under the Wages Act 1992 - however RM may try and wriggle out of it by saying docket , allowances etc are not really wages if you took them to Tribunal to recover that money - which you are allowed to do so - & RM would not like it at all !

Same goes for Constructive Dismissal , RM's view is you have to prove that RM constructed things to make things difficult - as we all know , these "individuals" in charge have this down to a fine art - proving it is another thing - RM would say it's just incompetence :chuckle - seen all this in another Industry - you'd think these "individuals " were paying you docket and mileage out of their own pockets .

very fishy indeed ! - not nice :evil/mad - this happened in a corrupt Parcelfarce Office locally once

well now there saying i can have 65% of my wages by Tuesday, So that's today and there are still no wages and i have no fuel to get to work so i rang up the office to tell them and there now saying Wednesday morning. Soon it will be Friday and then i wonder if i will get any pay then? What happens if i dont go in tomorrow because i have no money for fuel? is it my fault? and how difficult is it to take them to court? sometimes i just feel like saying "I'm a person like you, who works to get payed and wants not to worry about money all the time" the more i talk to the managers there seems less they want to do.

problem is all the politics which RM do in spades , the lack of real authority these managers really have as everything is by regimented dicktat from on high - also these "committed" ( some of them should be ! and never let out again ) managers that think they are paying out of their own pockets

you have to put internal grievances in - otherwise RM will try and make out , you are some s**tslinging troublemaker for going outside the PO and telling tales out of class as some of them idiots in charge really believe in the RM system - then it is a matter of filling in and submitting a IT-1 form available from any DWP Jobcentre / Dole Office - but seek CWU / Employment Solicitor Advice - a initial consultation is free .

RM may get very defensive as it's all spin and hype thanks to :lfo but the harsh reality isn't for public consumption as we all know ! , they may set some vicious corporate solicitors on you to make you out to be a troublemaker and they may try and bully you out of it , by threatening you with costs ; which isn't really legal but they will try it on . If a case was vexatious and /or frivolous - you were being a pain in the a*** , a preliminary IT hearing judgement would warn you not to go any further .

In fact adverse inferences can be drawn if RM have to hide behind solicitors / rely on them to answer simple questions

To be fair to RM , many PHG's in writing rooms have problems with Sheffield , the other problem is that all the green & long docket sheets have to go to Edinburgh for approval then get sent on to Sheffield - many of the staff at Sheffield are agency staff and do precisely what their computers tell them to .

Also there are a few staff at Edinburgh who do have some common sense and initiative - but it has to get silly first :d'oh! :arrrghhh

I stand corrected - if I'm out of date or wrong on this ?

People from other firms say they have never encountered so much farcical nonsense , with jobbing posties having to explain the system / how RM works to these staff - for those reasons RM like that sort of thing "kept down " and again ; they may be very defensive ,unnecessarily obstructive , even aggressive and confrontational

Yeah, you are wrong about this. Sheffield get a lot of grief but are pretty much on the ball paywise, it's usually managers that cause the problems by not following processes correctly. There are no agency staff at Sheffield and haven't been any for years (apart from at Christmas for recruitment). Edinburgh deal with overtime but it's all pretty automatic, the expertise is definitely in Sheffield and they follow the policies rather than conjecture whether it be in favour of RM or employees.
