christmas overtime rumour-any one confirm?

Heard today from a not very reliable source,so take with a pinch of salt,but our union rep was unusually mute about it,that the union have agreed 13 hours across the board SA overtime over Christmas.But its compulsory

Seeing as the general consensus in our delivery office is that they can poke their overtime this year,I said I'd ask on hear if anyone had heard anything.
I'm sceptical myself as I thought overtime was non-compulsory

they cant make you work over your contracted hours
i think our office will be run on docket this year though many ownt be interested in any OT

in our office the dom has always gone ahead over christmas so we have had no local agreement regards christmas.i cannot see the guarentee of s/a would go ahead as some people dont work o/t.however if it was the first 13 hrs of o/t to be paid at s/a rate.eventhen i would be dubious as royal amil wnt to save money.

There is some sort of agreement about xmas, or at least there was, though it has never been strictly applied as far as I know. The last few years there has been no formal agreement in our office for block OT it has been run on an ad hoc basis. You cannot be made to work beyond your contracted hours, even when agreements included block OT people would opt out because of family or personal commitments.

Do part timers get paid at SA rate? Or is it the usual same rate as first 10 hours OT is paid at? Either way they can stick it where the sun don't shine. I work 30 hours per week and finish at 12.30 which is late enough for me. (Used to be 09.45 in the old days, so you can see why I no longer do any overtime)
Sorry RM my Christmas goodwill went with the 1.5% pay rise, the pension, flexibility, summer lapsing..............

Last week our Dom said that 16 hours S/A would be offered to our office this Chistmas along with some radical ways of working,739s being redelivered later on in the same evening,callers office open much later and on Sundays, and a couple of other bits and bobs.

I used to like it (in a perverse way) when we used to do compulsory ten hour blocks, seven days a week for two full weeks plus however many days there were in the final week until christmas eve morning. It was a great earner in the run up until christmas and well appreciated by those folks that really needed the money at that time of year.

Then they started letting people opt out of the docket and it was never the same.

That was on nights walksorting that I did that, not delivery.

I just found out recently that one of the 30hr contract boys gets paid a £1 an hour less than me for doing the same SA collection, would that be a "spanish practice" that RM used to mention

Nope it means he has to work 40 hrs before he receives any additional increment on hourly rate.

You can't be forced to do overtime, unless you sign up for an S/A Contract. If you do so, then that S/A IS compulsary. Perhaps that's where the confusion came from.
