transferred in service vanished ?

Post by pumi63 »

Hello ,

Just wondering if any body here has had a similar experience regarding a pension from another company transferred into the Royal Mail and years later doing ' a vanishing act ' !

I joined RM around July 1998 and approx. 2 or 3 years later transferred in pension from my previous employer so it appeared for quite a few years in my yearly pension illustrations but much later and a few years nearer my 60 year approaching this value around 5 years worth of pension vanished .

In the course of life etc. i forgot about this although i had emailed the RMPP who told me that it was RMSPS that dealt with it so i emailed but got no response . I decided to contact them again late last year stating my details and service added from the transfer .

Anyway , out of the blue i got a mysterious BGC of a few thousand £££ into my bank account in December 24 . I believe in miracles but this sum of money had no reference and i had received no emails from anyone to inform me about this sum of money coming my way . I was worried enough to have visited the bank and told them about the money in my account . They checked and couldn't find any record of the payment origins so gave me a couple of fraud and scam line hotlines . Also advised me to keep the money separate and not spend it until they advised me .

Meanwhile , i emailed RMSPS again last week and to my surprise , without any notification / emails /letters , they replied that they had placed a sum of money in my account and wanted proof of my account if i had claimed not to receive the money .

So that answered the so called origins of this cash but they offered nothing else about what happened all these years and why they have paid this amount at this weird random period in time . Also , they have not elaborated what extra monthly pension payments i would be entitled to that i have not received thanks to this glaring screw-up by RMSPS .

I have emailed them again but they are either very busy or busy and incompetent and when they do reply there is no reference number assigned to the email that i can quote in my reply !!

I have told them that in hindsight i regret having put this money into the RM fund as it would have been worth more and i wouldn't have had this hassle ...

End of the book , sorry the story was so long .

From the information presented you need to put in a formal complaint letter and I believe you have a potential claim for compensation.

Write a formal complaint email to the director in charge of pensions stating what has happened in easy to read bullet points. Put as much info as possible with dates where possible. You are wasting your time with the admin pension team as this sort of issue is above their pay grade to resolve.

My take is that if they added years to your RM pension and then closer to retirement they took this away without any explanation, then this is not acceptable.

However what I would do first is work out what 5 years of added pension would have been worth as compared to your lump sum cash payment that they recently paid you. If the lump sum payment is worth more then it may be worth taking the money. It’s hard to say without knowing the figures.

Hope you get it sorted.
