Stuart McDonald wrote to the Dave Ward on Sunday night and within that letter he asked what are the things if Royal Mail agreed would stand down the strikes.

The PE agreed 5 issues would need to be agreed for the strikes to be stood down to allow further talks to conclude an agreement.

Stuart McDonald responded yesterday afternoon and he had reduced the five points to four and it fell far short of what we would agreed and PE rejected it unanimously.

Royal Mail have written off this Xmas so they can railroad all their changes from January. There is no deal that will benefit us to be had now, it’s all over.

If Royal Mail are happy to right Christmas off which they appear to be, they ain't budging. We're just wasting money striking now in my opinion, an opinion largely shared by most in my DO now judging by conversations at work yesterday and picket line this morning.

Just out of curiosity, what were the union's 5 points and what were RM's counter proposals? What was the one thing RM wouldn't concede?

Thomson and co have been given free reign by the Shareholders and the Executive Board to try and implement their "future vision" but that is not without due oversight.

They will be kicked into the long-grass by next monday morning.

Probably why ST has disappeared on an early season ski trip to Cloisters, maybe he will be so cock sure of his supreme abilities that he will fall down a crevasse doing some "off piste" without a guide.

What does the CWU's...'We will not accept these changes', 'we will not accept this and that' comments mean. Are they just words? How much power does the CWU actually have. It's all good and well saying you won't accept things, but Royal Mail are going ahead with the things you don't agree with. So where's your power?

-Compulsory redundancies are happening already or have happened?

-They are employing people on lower pay and terms and conditions already?

-They have replaced 12,000+ staff with agency workers they are going to keep.


At what point does the CWU prevent more changes happening? Where does the line get drawn?

Does Royal Mail want rid of letters totally?

Is it possible the government may have to take on letters and the USO?

How likely is it that Royal Mail will keep letters but manage to get the government to allow them to reduce the service? and if the government doesn't reduce the service what are the chances Royal Mail will not abide by the USO and just do their own thing?

Going by what's happening in our office at the end of Jan the CWU has ZERO power becasue RM is just using exec action and that's it. Sooner people realise they going to force through all the changes with or without the CWU the better tbh. Becasue let's be honest once Christmas is done and dusted do RM actually give a f**k? They're a parcels business now as we keep getting told and it doesn't matter how many days mail sits there for. Agency are clearing all our tracked and specials on strike days and as parcel duties when we not on strike.

Agency staff certainly aren't clearing our tracked my friend. There's a mountain of failures in my DO and every frame full to bursting with mail.
