Moving OPG's around to cover walks

My COM gave me last minute notice that he intends to mandatorily move around OPG’s to cover absent duties starting tomorrow. He also gave me notice that OPG’s will only be paid the hours they work, so I doubt there will be any takers for overtime.

My question is, can my COM do this? The union position is OPG’s can only be moved if they are asked and voluntarily do so.

Is there an agreement somewhere I can point to that says he cannot do this?

We have been doing this for most of last week. Fail your walk today and move to another. Deliver yours tomorrow and fail the one you done yesterday.

All while lapsing another duty and no overtime. Office is a f*@king mess of trays of flats and 4 day old mail. So long as the "premium" products are delivered,manager doesn't care.

They can put you anywhere they want on operational needs grounds as long as it is within your hours, including any travel which they must provide.

The irony is that was done 17 years to new reserves, myself included. But I haven’t seen this done to OPG’s in 12 years. Hmm there will be a lot of disgruntled members tomorrow in my office.

Managers trawling through rules and procedures and selecting or rejecting the terms and regulations they want .

We are now so far away from when we were a nationalised service. There is no way that offices would be piled high with undelivered mail of every class.

Are we still under the strict regulations whilst being owned by the state?
This is a private company like Starbucks now

Tends to generally only happen in DOs when a duty holder works their day off and can't possibly do anything but their own duty so the cover person gets shifted, but that's another story that's been mentioned on here a few times before.

That old saying “The mail must get through” is nothing but a part of the history of RM that meant something and is no more.
Absolute disgrace that it’s got to this & is going to get worse.
As per usual our Gov have this fixation with selling everything that is a part of this country.
Thompson has played a part in this but it started after privatisation, only paused during the Pandemic as we where useful!
The Mail no longer “gets through” & I doubt it ever will again!

DO,s don't work the same as a mail centre. Yes all my 318s always said ' to as instructed by jv5'. This was only because as a network driver we always had spare time. I started as a postie and have done several jobs in RM but being on a walk was the hardest and least paid. And that was when we were still on 2 deliveries. My local posties van is shagged every day.
