Royal Mail last week instructed their lawyers to threaten to take the CWU to the High Court seeking a Judge to award an interim injunction. If Royal Mail were successful in their legal challenge it would have meant that the union could not take any further strike action for up to 6 weeks depending on the decision of a full court hearing. We could even have lost both ballots at the full hearing.

The CWU were not prepared to risk the strike mandate you gave us.

Therefore last Friday the Postal Executive agreed that we would serve notice of a further 2 x 24 hours action on Saturday 12th and Monday 14th November. This will be everyone out together . This was our backstop if Royal Mail were going to use legal means to stop the 2 bouts of functional action we had already announced.

Whilst we understand there will be some frustration over the standing down of the action on 2nd ,3rd and 4th N and 8,9 and 10th November. We still have strike action on 12th and 14th November.

The Postal Executive are meeting on Tuesday to agree further dates for strike action from 15th November up to Christmas Eve.

Ask yourselfs this if the strikes were not working why have Royal Mail reverted to using the anti trade union laws to stop our strikes.

Please don’t turn inwards. You have all been hero’s and stalwarts thus far in fighting for your terms and conditions and a decent pay rise.

It has never been more vital that you continue with the fight. Remember the stakes could not be higher.

Remember the CWU are the only ones who are opposing the following :

Compulsory redundancies, Your work and you being replaced by owner drivers , agency and new employees on worse terms and conditions. Compulsory Sundays , All Deliveries starting no earlier than 08:00 and all innovative duty patterns removed , the increasing use of agency in RDCs and mail centres, the reduction in collections, annualised hours including no finishing times, Statuary sick pay for any absence other than your first absence per year. ( SSP is £98 per week ) and unacceptable and unworkable revisions.

So please keep the faith. There is only one fight and that is with Royal Mail.

Which is it?

I don’t see any acknowledgement that the notice wasn’t served legally correct so if you feel the union served it as they should have does that mean that rolling strikes are impossible?

We will be announcing action in the weeks you stated but it will not be functional. Apart from Cyber Monday all the action we announced previously was functional so we will be agreeing what replaces this and what we announce in December.

Ok thank you so our only options are all out strikes either one day a week or more

Part of the reason the union said the rolling strikes were announced was so the members only lose one days pay a week whilst having three days of action so either we are now going to have to continue with one day all our strikes or strike more days in the week. I can survive striking more than one day a week but I worry others won’t

I think they are coping with the one day strikes more easily than I’d hoped personally so was hopeful the rolling strikes would do the trick - so quite despondent now

So, are we now not on strike on Friday this week? It's all very confusing?
Did anyone see the bit in the Telegraph where simple Si says all posties will lose £2k if all strikes go ahead! He can't even do maths, mind you it goes on to say that the average, I stress, AVERAGE , postie with overtime and allowances, earns £30k a yr! Really!!! He really is out of touch and clueless.

apparently with RMs imposed overtime ban, there was a failure of 15000 yorks in the North West area. good on them.
