Date: 10th April 2008
TO ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
RE: Tariff Increase Quadrant Catering
We received correspondence from the Head of Corporate Responsibility & Engagement Services detailing a tariff increase due to take place at the end of April this year. In the past our approach has been to detail the increases in an LTB and seek the views of branches. However, following the endorsement of the Postal Executive document 65/2008 we have taken a different approach.
We have sent a response to the business rejecting their proposal based on the fact that they have levelled the majority of increases at breakfast bars. We have informed management that in our opinion their actions will drive employees to our competitors in respect of local cafes, supermarkets and sandwich delivery vans. This at a time when the CWU are encouraging our members to utilise the current facilities at every available opportunity.
We have requested an urgent meeting between ourselves, Royal Mail and Quadrant to discuss the matter further and have insisted that no increase takes place until the discussions have been concluded.
Branches will be further advised on developments discussed at joint meetings.
Any enquiries to Ray Ellis’s office, quoting reference PTC/MA/dj/018.

Yours sincerely
Ray Ellis,
Assistant Secretary
