Speak Up – Retaliation Monitoring

Speak Up is the confidential helpline for reporting concerns, anonymously if you wish, 24/7. Employees can report wrongdoing directly to this helpline. RMG provides this service to ensure employees feel comfortable making confidential reports
The most common concern amongst Speak Up reporters is Retaliation.
Retaliation is not tolerated in Royal Mail or its subsidiaries; all reports of retaliation will be fully investigated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

So ...what is retaliation? This can come in many guises including;
· Sacking, demoting, threatening or disciplining the reporter
· Assigning the reporter less high-profile or popular work to do
· Bullying, intimidating or harassing them
· Reducing pay, hours or responsibilities
· Giving them a low performance rating, bonus or pay rise
· Arbitrarily increasing their workload
· Failing to recognise work well done
· Excluding them from meetings, discussions or social events
· Re-assigning them to a less desirable role
· Spreading false rumours about them
· Isolating or ostracising them
· Treating them rudely or disrespectfully
· Denying overtime, promotion, benefits or training
· Relocating them to a different site
· No longer requesting their professional opinion
· Removing perks like a car parking space

To reassure our reporters and identify retaliation as early as possible to take swift action, Speak Up has introduced Retaliation Monitoring.
What we do:

· Risk assess every report to identify those deemed at higher risk of retaliation
· Check in with those reporters periodically for 12 months from date of report, ideally by telephone (if provided) or alternatively by email or the confidential chat facility within the Speak Up report (so do make a note of your passwords provided to you when you make a report, in order you can log in and we can communicate with you confidentially.
· Create reports of retaliation for full investigation where retaliation is suspected
· Monitor all Retaliation reports

If you are concerned about any wrongdoing or misconduct at work, or believe you have been retaliated against as a result of making a Speak Up report (even if you made it anonymously) do the right thing and speak up. Protect your colleagues, yourself and our brand by raising your concerns and making Royal Mail a better place to work.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Speak up and be silenced or at least not listened to it is a paradox in itself?
