RETIREMENT ON ILL HEALTH

Post by swintontillidie »

Does anyone have an idea on how much you'd be offered after 38 years service I had a stroke in November and have been off sick ever since I'm contemplating returning to work however they have suggested ill health retirement.Im unsure whether I could do a walk again. However could I afford to give up my job.

I’m guessing they would offer you about a years pay if you went.

As far as I know it's a standard 34 weeks pay(tax free), plus either 9 or 12 weeks PILON(taxed) depending on service. In your case it would be 12 weeks!

If RM get their way, those terms will be reduced going forward. :thumbdown

Only you can answer that last bit.
If you've been with the company that long then you might have enough savings and with the ill health retirement payment manage to fund your retirement until the state pension kicks in. :hmmmm
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09

They could offer u driving job, just parcels but that takes its toll on your body ,In door work ,if not your office somewhere else. One of the blokes in mine is on nights now .He wishes he left. You got to work it out ,health should come first. You should have at least 7 months wages.

It's slightly more than a years wage. A year for a full timer without overtime will probably see just under £20k put in the bank. IHR will see £21.5k put in the bank and probably a tax rebate on top.
