Outside Letterbox
I was recently shouted at by an unhinged type for putting his mail through the letterbox on his door instead of the small outside letterbox. Do people have a preference when both options are available?

Re: Outside Letterbox
If they have one, and I see it, I always use the outside one and assume it is there for a reason such as a dog. Normally if they don't want you to use it they tape over it but there will always be someone unhappy. I had a complaint because I put a parcel through a letterbox instead of leaving it in a newspaper box.
I'm turning purple!

Re: Outside Letterbox
Really the owner should either tape up or place a note on their undesired delivery point stating “ please use the box on the wall” or what other alternative may be.

Re: Outside Letterbox
I asked a customer this week which I should use and they said the door, as the wall letterbox was just for customers to put in their egg money!!

Re: Outside Letterbox
Likewise. It was a white box in amongst some other white cupboards. I had to apologise and say that I was n`t normally on that round.
I use the box if I see it, but some people don`t even bother to look in them. Most of them are too small to be of any use, so I`ll put larger letters/small packets through the letterbox.

Re: Outside Letterbox
Unless there's an obvious reason, I usually just use whichever looks newer. So into the shiny new letterbox instead of the rusty old outside box, or vise versa if the box on the wall is shiny and new.

Re: Outside Letterbox
if there is an outside letterbox and something won't fit in it, and let's face it some a pretty naff then you should p739 it even if it would go through the door letterbox, guessing nobody would complain at a thick catalogue left on top, but nothing else,
also this is when knowledge of the duty comes in knowing they can still use it or not, their dog may have died but kept it up,
if unsure p739 it and zero comeback other than a grunt from the householder moaning they had to pick up the 99p earrings from china
