It’s been two years since Covid-19 thrust us into a new way of life with the first enforced UK lockdown.

The pandemic has transformed so many aspects of our world. It’s turned livelihoods upside down, separated families, friends and communities and driven dramatic shifts that are still having an effect today.

People have had to adapt to living in a very different world, but Royal Mail has remained a constant; we’ve provided a lifeline for businesses and communities across the UK. We’ve also offered extra care, smiles and familiarity to our communities. Our services haven’t faltered. We’ve been essential to the Government’s efforts to fight Covid-19 – collecting and delivering test kits, seven days a week.

As we transition into a world of ‘new normal’, we must continue to take care of ourselves and others, especially supporting vulnerable colleagues; get vaccinated, wash your hands regularly, use face coverings, clean your vehicle and increase ventilation.

Last year, we produced a feature film One Year On – Delivering through a pandemic. You can watch it again here. It’s a poignant reflection of how we pulled together and got through the most challenging period on most of our lifetimes, in the words of our people. It’s worth your time reminding yourself of just what we did.

On the two-year anniversary since the UK’s first Covid-19 lockdown, we’re asking colleagues think to the future. We want you to share what you’ve overcomes, things you’ve achieved and lessons you’ve learned. Please post your comments on Workplace using #twoyearson.

Sadly, this is also a time for reflection. We’d like to use this anniversary to pay tribute to the colleagues and their family members who have tragically lost their lives to Covid-19. They will never be forgotten.

Colleagues and members of their families got long covid/died.

They may have caught covid at our mail centre where safety conditions were absolutely shocking throughout the pandemic….but hey there were massive profits and dividends but suddenly no money for a pay rise..

We never took it seriously, and look at the results of that re customer service last 2 years
EVERY DEPOT WITH OVER 35 PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE A FULL TIME CLEANER
we dont need 10 regional operations directors re £100,000 plus
We dont need 4/5 new senior personnel/directors salaries of those in excess of 1.5 million
Depots dirty places in non covid times let alone last 2 years
When a depot got it hard we all know the propeganda ? full sanitise ??
or one man and his mop-we knew the truth !!

I would like to also share this...

A significant number of reports have been received from ASRs over recent months regarding management ‘manipulation’ and malpractice in respect of NHS ‘Test and Trace’ notifications to employees advising them to self-isolate. The reports from various parts of the country involve managers telling staff to either ignore the NHS Test and Trace self-isolation messages, switch off their mobile phones when NHS Test and Trace messages are received, put their mobile phones in their lockers whilst at work, re-set the App when a Test and Trace message arrives, cancel the notification etc., and so on.

After repeatedly taking these matters up with Royal Mail Group HQ and the Royal Mail Group Head of Occupational Health, the following communication was issued on 2 February and the topic has also been covered on RMTV. In short, Royal Mail and Parcelforce strongly support The NHS Test and Trace App.

My reflection is I still have idiot colleagues leaving used masks draped over the gearstick in the van. We can blame managers, line managers, cleaners, area managers, Simon, Dave and Terry but some of us are really disgusting....if only there was accountability.

If it was up to me as part of the PDA vehicle check at the end of the round we’d take interior photos of the van to show we haven’t left any s**t in there. I’d operate a 3 strikes and you’re sacked policy. If you’ve cleaned your crap out and taken a picture showing a clear interior/cab you’ve nothing to fear.

Probably like many things where RM have taken the time out of offices so it doesn't get done. Probably a lot of delivery staff are already at their finish time or over by the time they get back to the DO

I take it RMTV are trying to get lots of "Feel Good" stories to produce yet more Corporate BS videos telling us all how wonderful we are?

2 years on and we're actually having more Covid staff abscences than during the Crisis I presume because everyone's started going out socialising more, and there's less restrictions & precautions in place?
