Asking for/Trying to book Holiday Dates....

Hello all,

I just wondered what everyone's experiences are like when it comes to asking for Holiday dates. I'm a relatively new postie (1 year in April) and I've so far found it a difficult process with no clear method.

For instance, I go in to the managers office with a handwritten note and 9 times out of 10 it's left that they'll get back to me or I'll be told to hand it to the line manager or the person who does the payroll. Then in most cases I have to return after a few days, a week, 2 weeks to remind them. I've even seen one holiday date request note on a pile of papers belonging to the line manager for weeks!

In my experience so far, getting my holiday request seen to seems to hinge on whether the manager is having a good day, whether I've caught them at the right time etc

And the handwritten note feels so inefficient, especially when it gets left on a desk. Is there another method for requesting Holiday? Have I been missing something? I've always been told to write the dates down but I feel like at least in my experience, doing it through the app or online would be a lot better.

I’m having the same experience. I’ve not been a postie that long. Been asking for last week in March since Xmas. Feel I’m being fobbed off.

Get their email address if you can, send request to manager and copy in your rep and area rep.

It's one of the many infuriating things, the manager should be able to just do it while you wait but it's one of those things that they just can't be arsed with, you know like doing their job

Have you looked at the holiday sheet by the way, there should be a sheet up showing when everyone is off for the year, if so you can at least see if there's availability.

Highjacking this thread a bit but we are not allowed to book lieu days until the next holiday year, is this company policy or as I suspect the DOM just bullshitting us, I would have thought the whole point of bank holidays would be that you have that amount in that year?

Thanks all - I'll try emailing the dates and copying further people in. At least it's on the 'system' then and they'll be forced to deal with it.

And royal mail wonder why sick leave is so high , most don’t even bother requesting peak dates anymore as they know the answer already.

Or
Pay someone out of their annual leave which works out cheaper and can be planned around.

They are trialing using the app to book annual leave so hopefully that will cone in at some point. But it will still have to be signed off by your DOM id imaging so might not be much better.
