Clocking in/out , clawback of hours .
Could this help us going forward ? We all know we have staff coming in early working for free , rushing around and finishing early , giving a false impression of daily workloads. Clocking in and out would give us all an accurate reading of the job . Also allowing Royal Mail to clawback hours if people finish early would be a deterrent meaning people would finally come to terms with working their full hours . I know this isn’t a problem in every office up and down the country right now but I do believe it’s a big factor in why we are in this mess today.

I agree, but for the reasons expressed, management will avoid it. Middle management do not want to report the genuine hours that our people really do. As a staunch union member i am very disappointed that Terry, Dave and co have failed lamentably to push this through with the hierarchy. The company make a good screw from the free efforts of our misguided colleagues

Royal Mail are putting together plans to commence deployment in the new financial year of scan in, scan out, within delivery offices

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Can't see them implementing this in delivery, it will totally f**k things up for managers.

I'm still aghast that there's no clock at work.
I've never ever worked anywhere else where Pay vs. Attendance is so lax that it basically takes the piss.
I'd bet my bollocks to a barndance that if they brought in clocking in/out machines and combined with actuals the size difference between rounds would equalise.
I get tired seeing people struggle clearing walks within their time only for john and jane doe with tiny rounds always finish early, always argue their way out of lapsing and never take any extra work, even when they finish hours before their time.
If you went home early from work at any other job you'd probably get sacked.

I can guarantee there will be a way to circumvent the accuracy of a clocking in system. Whether it be not turning the thing on until a certain time, bullshitting/pressuring folk into NOT using it correctly, fiddling the figures sent upstream etc.
C'mon the management are so crooked they screw their pants on in the morning, but that's the RM culture.

Re: Clocking in/out , clawback of hours .
The best solution for both parties, which would possibly solve many failed deliveries, would be to go back to job and finish and forget this stupid work all your paid hours/clock in/out which has not worked from day one.
Yes we know that clock in/out and work all your paid hours is the norm in society but this job is a lot different from most jobs in that the ultimate goal every day is clear office procedure i.e. everything that comes in the door that day gets delivered.
Job and finish would put incentive back into job - get the job done, go home, but accept that it will mean good days and not so good days, which was always the case in the J&F days anyway.
We all know those who have slowed down a lot to drag out their day if they're lucky enough to have a walk that enables this.
Covering a part walk on o/t was never a problem when the incentive was there. Crack on, get your walk done, get o/t done, go home.
This company is expert on fixing things that are not broken.

Anyone coming in early and wanting to will just not scan their card till their start time. It'll make absolutely no difference to early starters at all.Sir Henry wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 18:29I can guarantee there will be a way to circumvent the accuracy of a clocking in system. It’s the job and finish culture that has got us into this mess , what company that sees you finishing 2 hours early wouldn’t look to give you more work to fill that time .As for good and bad days , sorry but I like to know I have a finish time regardless of the workload.priority102 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 18:49The best solution for both parties, which would possibly solve many failed deliveries, would be to go back to job and finish and forget this stupid work all your paid hours/clock in/out which has not worked from day one.

I agree. With no job and finish there is no incentive to work to a decent speed. It's nonsense to suggest those that finish early every day have easy rounds and those that go over have hard rounds (our office) i'm sure there are plenty of cases like this but in our office it doesn't ring true. It's amazing that those who drag there feet when they can't be bothered can finish well before time when they have an appointment at 2pm. If I was to work like our slowest colleagues, talking all morning, coming in late, fag breaks every hour, sorting inefficiently, delivering inefficiently then I'm sure I'd go over my time every day. The issue is THERE IS NO MINIMUM STANDARD OF WORK REQUIRED! Too many don't try to get as much done before they cut off (no issue with cutting off btw), and it's a case of doing as little as they can and absolutely nothing gets said about it.
Appreciate all offices are so different on how they are run and managed but this is how our office works.

Im all for it as long as you get paid the same when asked to flex by management ( ie come in at 5 instead of 6 and finish an hour 'early')

Works the other way though mate with people running round duties, that become unachievable for others and used as a stick to beat them withBobby39 wrote: ↑23 Jan 2022, 07:54priority102 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 18:49The best solution for both parties, which would possibly solve many failed deliveries, would be to go back to job and finish and forget this stupid work all your paid hours/clock in/out which has not worked from day one.

These days no firm is going to let it's staff do ot within their normal duty hours.
J&F won't stop RM adding bits to walks. They'd be looking at the actuals data, working out what can be added to what walks
