Re: Home Countries North closing
Can't see that being true. I believe that it's only been open for less than 10 years and was purpose built. Think the old Milton Keynes MC was one of those merged into HCN so it would be very strange for it to move back.
If it is true then maybe RM don't own it and are being turfed out by whoever does own it. Wonder if the MCs surrounding the area covered by HCN could handle HCN's work being split between them

HCN wasn't purpose built and RM don't own the site. Milton Keynes is not part of HCN. They are building a massive site near MK it's not the mail centre. A senior manager told me this btw

Sounds like either RM have decided that it's no longer fit for purpose or RM have been given notice to vacate the building

A lot of the leases are coming up for renewal. Is it leased or owned.

If it's true that there's a lot of leases coming up for renewal then I reckon we're about so see a massive wave of mergers at least for DO. I doubt that any MC has got the capacity to absorb part of another MC

Why not with the super hubs nearing completion and mail dropping?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 19:02If it's true that there's a lot of leases coming up for renewal then I reckon we're about so see a massive wave of mergers at least for DO. Re: Home Countries North closing
AFAIK the superhubs can only process larger parcels, you'll still need the MCs to handle the small stuff. We can probably get 30-40 sleeves on a bad night of foreign mail. We're a smaller MC, the bigger MCs might get 100+. Them sleeves with foreign mail in could potentially have 1,000+ items in them so that's potentially 30k of traffic along.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑24 Nov 2021, 08:56Why not with the super hubs nearing completion and mail dropping?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 19:02If it's true that there's a lot of leases coming up for renewal then I reckon we're about so see a massive wave of mergers at least for DO. The superhubs are going to end up rejecting lots of yorks and sleeves as probably less than 15% of yorks are purely large (and even then often with normal and Tracked mixed together). It's not unusal to get large in the sleeves, which again often have normal and Tracked mixed together.

The superhubs can process them all according to the press releases RM issued.

So what happens to the Large Specials will they be sorted at these Super hubs and quite how exactly are all these parcels going to get to and from the hubs Royal Mail do not have enough Trailer Drivers for the current network let alone surplus to run to and from these Super Hubs

Don't see any mention there of wither minimum or maximum parcel sizescobrakai wrote: ↑24 Nov 2021, 12:04The superhubs can process them all according to the press releases RM issued.

They'll still have to be scanned in and out at the MCs as SDs still have to be scanned in and out of every office that they pass throughdenhamhoop wrote: ↑24 Nov 2021, 12:53So what happens to the Large Specials will they be sorted at these Super hubs and quite how exactly are all these parcels going to get to and from the hubs Royal Mail do not have enough Trailer Drivers for the current network let alone surplus to run to and from these Super Hubs

Talking to a HCN driver I think the move mayb on. I had heard that NDC maybe relocated around the corner from where it is now and South Midlands moved up to NDC current site which may free up some space for LU & HP. WD/AL & EN maybe moved to Mailcentres like Greenford and Romford as they are nearer and it would be logistical nightmare getting from J18 of the M1

Re: Home Countries North closing
Probably nothing into Romford as January last year RM had negotiated a 3yr extension with the landlord, so potentially they might have to move in a couple of years. According to the same thread which discusses Romford, Croyydon, Greenford and Jubillee are all full so that limits options for moving work around other MCs.rainbowwarrior72 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2021, 15:34Talking to a HCN driver I think the move mayb on. Looking on Google Maps there's about 4 buildings that look a similar size or are bigger. 1 is Booker's, 1 is Amazon's you both of them can probably be ruled out for being moved into. Don't know the companies in the rest so I've no idea what the chances of moving into one of them is. At this stage I think moving into a new build somewhere is the most likely option, depending on distances and travel times maybe either RM moved in or postcode areas get shuffled around a bit with another area being moved into the same new build

Re: Home Countries North closing
I work out of JMC and we are so crammed full of work and its the same with the other MCs but I think when Romford was being set for closure RM were panicking big time because they would have to reshuffle the Postcodes to absorbs Romfords work. HCN if closed would cause alot of headaches and I did forget to add SG in my Post. That could go to PE as it is quite close to the A1M and neighbours SG.
