Xmas non service days

Post by tragictramp »

Xmas day is a Saturday this year so classed as a non service day allowing people to have the Monday off as replacement bank holiday.

What if the Saturday is your day off, do you get it back as that week you have essentially not had your day off compared to staff who have other days off? The same for new year's Day? Otherwise some staff will have 2 days off and others just the non service days 🤔

The last time it happened was 2010 and they said this in the LTB viewtopic.php?f=15&t=32142&p=335904&hil ... ts#p335904
In line with last year Branches will note that Saturday the 25th of December 2010 and Saturday 1st January 2011 have been declared as non-service days for Royal Mail, which means there will be no collections or deliveries on those days, people who were due to work will have the day off with no clawback. Those who were not due to attend will not have a day in lieu granted. The Bank Holidays will now be Monday 27th and Tuesday the 28th of December 2010 and Monday 3rd January 2011 (plus Tuesday 4th January 2011 in Scotland). Normal Bank Holiday arrangements will apply on all the designated Bank Holidays.

Just to clarify that, if my days off fall on the 1st and 3rd of January do I get 2 days back or just the one for the Monday?

It happened last year also. My day off fell on 26th December, which was a Saturday and declared non service day. I didn't get the day off back.

Thanks Yellowbelly. I was being told different things by different people. Some you win, some you lose then. It does seem unfair on those it falls on but such is life eh.

Copy & paste from the 2010 Document;

3.4 As agreed in 2004, people will not be required to make up hours they would have worked arising from the bank holidays or non USO days. Therefore people normally scheduled to work on Saturday in the provision of USO collection and delivery services will not be required to attend on 25 December or 1 January and not be required to make up the hours (i.e. there will be no claw back)

Last time it happened was last yr, I lost a day as it was my day off. Another great victory for the worker from the CWU.

It means that the lucky ones who get the non service day off as well as their schedule day off that week, don't have to pay it back in any shape or form. It's just a straight extra day off for them. Lucky them. Guess how many leave reserves will be put on Saturday off that week?

Correct, reserve’s can’t get a Saturday off for love nor money all year, then suddenly come Christmas every single one will be given the Saturday as their day off! It’s happened for the last 3 years here and I’ve no doubt it will happen again this year.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
