It’ll be overtime that goes first. Then, when someone retires or leaves, they won’t be replaced. I think the fear of thousands culled is wide of the mark, but if you’re part-time and have come to rely on a 30-40 hour week, I would prepare to be working 20 in future. Similarly, if you’re a full-timer who frequently finishes early, I would prepare yourself to work every minute of the contract in future & have extra lapsing / calling points added.postiewhite wrote:So do part timers work less days? Do staff get more saturdays off? Do we all come in Saturday but do a smaller shift? These are some of the questions we dont know.
If they cut 20-30k jobs then who goes first? Last in first out, older full timers, non drivers? There doesn't seem to be any clarity kn anything. Horrible feeling for all.

so its a bad thing that the public think we are a bunch of c***s for going on strike at this time, because they are stuck in and wont get the egg whisk they ordered from china, or the l.e.d. light bulbs. meanwhile you and i and 20,000 others will lose our jobs. i don't care what the public think. all out.1560loopsayear wrote:I don't think the public would appreciate us taking any widespread industrial action now, in current times. They won't get bogged down with the finer details of what we are up against with Rico and his henchmen. If the 6 day USO goes, it's a slippery slope down from that point. Parcel dominated on steadily falling terms and conditions. Trust him to take advantage of these difficult times and cast it off as 'helping' us out.

saturday deliveries suspended
Surely you will just do the normal loops but without what amounts to about 40 letters per loop. Just don't see the point. May as well do it all.Woody Guthrie wrote:A non driver isn't much use to you if you're not delivering letters.deltaforce wrote:Not sure where it mentions about non drivers!seaside wrote:So drivers have responsibility of driving all the time are always expected to do large parcels and now non drivers can have every Saturday off. drivers don't get pay a penny extra for driving, think now I would prefer to be non driver much less hassle

If you read some post on social media the public actually thing they are doing us a favour with this
The realistic side of it is non drivers won't be needed saturday so suddenly been a driver becomes a punishment if you value saturdays off as you'll probably be in although maybe less saturdays then before perhaps covering 3/4 duties parcels and working maybe 1 in 3/4 saturdays?
But in the bigger picture at the moment means potentially having more staff in the office on other days when we are supposed to be distancing so almost forcing there plan in to have staggered deliveries and on top of this the potential for up to 20,000 job losses
Id be up for using that strike vote if it wasn't for the fact the public would turn on us but will there support be there when we get massively shafted by Royal Mail? Don't think so

Depends on where you work / what the set up is. If you have trolley / HCT duties, they could well send them out as ‘normal’ but with some of oversized items crammed in where the mail would be. Otherwise, some of those duties are going to be unmanageable on the Monday.paul1231 wrote:If you read some post on social media the public actually thing they are doing us a favour with this![]()

Terry Pullinger states there is an "implied agreement with the regulator & government.
I would be interested to see what Ofcom believe is implied by the term "Temporary change to postal arrangements on Saturdays"

saturday deliveries suspended
On my single rural yesterday I honestly had more packets than letters on some loops. Leaving a couple of hundred letters behind on a Saturday is neither here nor there. There is definitely more to it.rambo1 wrote:Surely you will just do the normal loops but without what amounts to about 40 letters per loop. Just don't see the point. It's this SaturdayLouBarlow wrote:So if this starts the week commencing 2nd May, they have plenty of time to draw up new duties and work out rotes for days off and all the other minor details that this bombshell announcement requires? Oh no wait, they have less than a week.
Amazing. If the union f***s this up, I'm done.

Mondays will become lumpy in terms of letter bundles, because we are supposed to have been prepping all D2D into the frame and take only where there is mail since 1st April, which with the rollover of Saturday letters means you will clear a vast majority of the frame of D2D on Monday... If you have time to complete before duty end.
Sending out HCT duties just with parcels at least for the first trip out has become the norm in our depot for weeks. Sometimes they have a bit of time to go back out again with some letter bundles, other times not and they just roll over to the next day, rinse and repeat. "Nice and easy" days simply don't exist any longer since Coronavirus arrived, everyday is right up to your finish time.
