if you go home without asking you will be sacked
What they do is offer you to go home but you have to take that day as your day off even though you've travelled to work and maybe spent a hour there. Sneaky.

I'll bet all you pussies are south of Watford - it's just a bit of wind, they're a regular occurrence up here ffs - we'd never be out delivering and remember we need the publics support at this critical time - just goes to show how insensitive the weather can be though - next week we'd be on strike :whistle

The Prime Minister has chaired talks about plans to protect the public.

In the conference call, joined by staff from organisations including the Met Office and the environment and highways agencies, Mr Cameron heard the storm could have a "widespread impact", his spokesman said.

But he was told there were plans in place to minimise the effect on public services such as schools, the NHS, transport and power supplies and postal services.
I wonder what they will be.
a lot of the mail due to be sent by mail tonight, has been transferred onto road/rail services
are you saying its not safe in the air ?
no just that they dont want to load it onto aircraft which are at risk of being cancelled due to high winds and have to try and make alternative arrangements at 2am, they think going by road is a better bet at the moment
they have just said no trains in the south till 9am
the rail services RM are not currently affected, they are mainly west coast lines going to scotland which are running ok at moment
Yes, that's all it is now, West Coast Main Line, London - Warrington - Glasgow.

LOL :chuckle

Yeah you have to laugh really.

Misses has left for work and reported a tree down blocking the main road

I phoned in the office at 6.30 to check with the dom to see if they are going out. He was waiting for a nod on the conference call. Told him if they go ahead would I would not advise bikes at the very least.

Seems to have settled down quite a bit here thank god.

Apparently it's quietened down now and moved on. Because we are in the Pennines we get a lot of winds and I got fed up of losing fence panels so I did away with the Waney Edge because they flex in the wind and made my own about 4 years ago and haven't lost one since. Though the ones I share with my neighbour were bought about 3 years ago and we haven't had a popper yet but again not Waney.
