Just wondering does each mail centre send a truck out to remaining mail centres i.e. 50 trucks hit the road at night from each mail mail centre to every other one ?

not that simple unfortunately, there are also distribution centres with will gather the mail up from a wider area of mail centres then channel the mail to another distribution centre and then back out to mail centres, there is also aircraft used, around 20 flights per night and mail also goes by train as well in some areasJ4ck100 wrote:Just wondering does each mail centre send a truck out to remaining mail centres i.e. 50 trucks hit the road at night from each mail mail centre to every other one ?

This is really interesting - could we perhaps update it/do a new list? There have been changes and closures since 2012.
It would also be interesting to which MC’s have PSMs/FSMs etc, and which ones offload certain work (eg 2nd class mail sorting) to other centres.

I can see RM decommissioning some or all of the FSMs over the next few years. The volume of flats has dropped a lot over the last few years. Possibly some of it might be down to companies sending documents electronically instead of sending them in the post.Lockardian wrote:This is really interesting - could we perhaps update it/do a new list? iirc it's going to be about 40 PSMs that RM are going to have so I'm guessing their plan is to have 1 in every MC but the largest MCs might have 2. Don't know about the smallest MCs - don't think Truro would have a hope in hell of fitting one in.

We could really do with a new list as so much has changed since the list on page 1 was compiled. I’m happy to help compile one. It would be nice to see info such as postcodes covered, machines in use (FSM, PSM, IMP, CSS etc), any local arrangements/diverts in place (eg 2C packets sorted elsewhere), etc.
If anyone wants to post info about their mail centre here it can then be compiled into a list.

Does anyone know how Chorley fits into the network? Is it a ParcelForce centre? We get a trailer from there every night with packets, flats and letters on it - possibly sorted elsewhere though.

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
I know this is an old question, and we could do with an updated list of Mail Centres, RDCs, parcel sort centres etc. I’m happy to compile if anyone DMs me info - I’ve got a rough idea but not aware of local diverts in place etc.
Anyway, AFAIK Inverness and Carlisle only deal with 1C and mech 2C letters. Inverness diverts all other 2C/T48 to Aberdeen, and Carlisle diverts 2C/T48 to Preston and 2C large letters to Warrington. So if someone in Stranraer sends a 2C LL to their next door neighbour it will go to Warrington and back!
Anyone know of any other 2C diverts?

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
Hi, happy New year to all. I am not an employee, just a customer who wants better clarification since customer service couldn’t help despite many calls. The parcel that’s supposedly have been delivered to Central London last 2nd week of November is still in Jubilee Mail Centre and no further activity is detected. Is there any way that customer can go to Jubilee Mail center and collect the parcel from there? Thank you.

Sorry to hear you’re having problems. There’s a dedicated part of this forum for customer queries - you may get a better response by asking there.

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
Some of the temporary Parcel Sorting Centres (PSC's) opened for Christmas have been kept open in January due to the volume of parcels - mainly for overspill when Mail Centres are at capacity due to staff shortages etc. Not sure how long they'll remain open as RM is keen to close them for cost reasons, but the need dictates spare capacity in the network right now.

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
I’ve almost completed an updated mail centre list as of 2021 but have a couple of questions:
Have both Ipswich and Portsmouth Mail Centres closed now (IP codes to Chelmsford, PO codes to So’ton)?
There also appear to be some “parcel sort centres” - an International (inward) one in the Midlands, possibly at Atherstone, and one in the South East. Are these temporary/seasonal operations?
Also, on the list on page 1 both Dorset (Poole) MC and Bournemouth Air Hub are mentioned as sorting BH and DT codes. Is this correct and if so
how does it work?
Thanks in advance for any info.
