Well to me it looks like that CWU HQ have made a unilateral decision to accept the scheme and expects the rank and file to go along with it. Was the PEC included in the decision making, any reps like Dingo asked for an opinion of the ground troops - I'm sure a quick phone call and a quick poll would have sufficed..................or is it just a question of the memberships opinion isn't important.....................now there's a surprise.

CWU Postal Conference 2012 from the Bristol & District Amalgamated branch

3: Conference agrees that the Postal Executive will cease all involvement in the Royal Mail “work experience” programme (as outlined in the letter to branches 012/12) and notify Royal Mail of this immediately after the close of conference.

The Postal Executive is instructed accordingly

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Just to clear that up for me (was only an Angard employee for 2 weeks) Bristol has stopped talking placements, or all of Royal Mail?

No...it's a motion to conference nothing more.
It's welcome but it can/will/may/may not be ignored.
Even motions that are carried can be watered down to the point of....why bother?
Usually there is a related, weaker cop-out motion that is carried to allow this one to fall and faces to be saved.

It will probably read.....
Conference agrees that the Postal Executive will enter into discussion with Royal Mail with a view to renegotiating with the help of national working groups a way forward to present a joint statement on the viability of continued involvement in the “work experience” programme (as outlined in the letter to branches 012/12) and notify Royal Mail sometime in the near future.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I see Tesco have caved in....

...and that's a predominantly non-unionised business.
Imagine what a strong union could do to this scheme? :cuppa

Well you have to ask what RMs response would have been if the union had been less than entusiastic about it.

Ministers have dropped the threat of sanctions for unemployed youngsters on a controversial work experience scheme.

They can't have...there were no sanctions.
