Of course what I said was a little tongue in cheek and wishful thinking. What I would advocate is a much less "cosy" relationship AND certainly no financial support whatsoever. Like you I served in HM Forces and I find it distasteful that the union publicly takes the stance it does on the issues of anti war - that's not to say that I am pro war now, but if they have an opinion they should make it clear that that is their opinion and not the opinion of the membership.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:But there is nothing in life that is apolitical. Just look at Royal Mail and the Hooper report, Allan Leighton being head hunted by Labour to run (or rundown) Royal Mail. The strikes in 2007 had Political support from Labour Rebels and other Political Parties and Unions, the Mail Centre Closure (still can't call it rationalisation) is a local political matter which is why local politicians in Crewe are backing the call for RM to negotiate. The Post Office Closure program is certainly political. Even our pay rise and Pay and Mod agreement became political when Broon said we should accept the offer and go back to work.
I think if we banned the Union from any Political matters that would be a mistake. However, I would question any support or commenting on matters that would be outside the interests of its members. For instance I would not support an official presence at an Anti War Rally but I would support an unofficial presence, there is a distinction and they should know which side they would be on when deciding on whether or not to support a certain political stance, demonstration or party.

POLITICAL FUND EXEMPTION NOTICE
Last 2 posts caught my eye. I am ex forces and have been on demos against the iraq war. After I left the mob I realised that I was just used to advance corporate Britain. When I served it was about getting all the lads back with all intact. Trade unionism is political and War is a failure of politics, therefore we the working class cannot allow the paid charlatans in government a free reign. We must hold them to account. Its not their kids fighting and dying in far away places for obscure reasons, iether we stay in Labour or we begin to form another party. As for leaders of the union a stance that is properly informed and evaluated must be passed at conference and then shouted from all platforms. As I write this another lad killed in action. God rest him and give his family comfort.
Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
