Well your in Scotalnd and the Scotish Green party is totally seperate sovereign party that other than a shared name is nowt to do with its southern neighbour. Scottish Green party policies are therefore not for me to wory about  as the missus is unlikely to allow me to move the family back to the motherland

So six pages on, the subject has gone somewhat away from the name of the thread, and guess what no ones come up with an answer to mailman71's original post, but then we did'nt really expect anyone to defend the indefensible did we ?. No vote please.

They don't want them sitting idle on Saturday morning so they want to run them 6 days a week.
Although lightning fast they make the mail arrive later at your DO. Later start = later finish.
I believe this was one of the things the CWU had to concede for the talks to continue (you'd have to check the postings from those in the know).
But although we have to work later on Saturday the CWU managed to secure a commitment to fewer Saturdays.
4th post in on the thread. I'm afraid thats the answer

A really strong commitment to............4 EXTRA SATURDAYS PER YEAR.
In return for the rest of them being ruined. :cuppa

We must put pressure on branches to ballot members for Saturday only strike action.
I heard today that a major reason for the RM wanting to ruin what little is left of our weekends was, day specific D2Ds, RM envisage Saturday being a popular day for the w*****s who produce junk mail to opt for as the specific day they want their shyte delivered.

Sorry, but please folks, VOTE NO to this ultra-shyte deal. Do we really want to vote to stuff up our weekends completely, just so RM can get us to deliver up to three lots of shyte on Saturday afternoons?
And for the pathetic £20.62 a week, pro-rata for part-timers?

VOTE NO.

saturday is a big no no for delivering junk mail.
you are far more likely to be attacked by a grumpy inhabitant with one of those "no junk mail" on their door.

No, mate. All day Saturday strikes, just as they did in the Irish Republic. Right now, all we're asking is that the CWU/RM management team leave us keep the status quo as regards our early Saturday finishes, but if they keep on blatantly ignoring us, then we should all push for having a MON-FRI working week with Saturday and Sunday off, just like the guys have who sat on opposite sides of the table negotiating this attack on our working conditions.
As for the legal side of things, just as it happened in the Irish Republic, the CWU after being initially hostile to the majority of members telling them where to stick their, "Saturday will become a normal working day", they will be left with little choice but to comply with the demands of their members and get on board.
The thing that sticks in my craw the most about the whole Saturday thing, is this, never in a zillion, million years, would those suits from the CWU and Royal Mail, have negotiated a deal whereby THEIR weekends are completely ruined, never. But, as it was just our weekends they wanted to balls-up, well, piece of cake, weren't it? :evil/mad

I suppose it's a bit like the four day week where you get the option to work two days overtime or have another job as a taxi driver or handyman :hmmmm well it's amazing you can still live and learn after 20 years here.
