I find the leaflets annoying. What is the response rate from these leaflets, on the whole? Personally, if I want something, I search for it on the internet: I can check all the prices in one sitting. I think leaflets are a little outdated. When I want to advertise something, I sell it online and blast all of my personal contacts by email.smokerjim wrote:You could employ one person to do the D2Ds for 5 walks - give them 30 hr contracts, pay them the same as us, get them started at 10am when we're all out the door & give them as many D2Ds as RM & the Union like....more money into the Service, more workers ( hopefully more Union members too ) & new jobs created for drivers ( or more work to secure drivers jobs ) - what's not to like? Oh yeah, it's a sensible idea, that requires an investment in an untested idea - two reasons why it will never happen, irrespective of the potential returnsLee246 wrote:A seperate Royal Mail dept should be set up that deals solely with door to doors, whereas workers are employed solely to deliver them and let them do as many as they want as long as they are getting paid no less than the minimum 1.67p per leaflet. Asking us Posties to deliver umpteen amounts of d2d with the mail along with nil/reduced payment is just not on. I personally find them a pain in the backside, and customers forever moan about them.

Door to doors are a good way of making a little extra on your pay. Some times they can get in the way and slow you down. I have a friend whom started his own leaflet company. He charges £30 quid per 1000 doors. I know royal mail charge £50 quid as he checked it out. This is how Royal mail are losing the door to door business. So they are trying to get us to deliver more leaflets at a cheaper price than their competitors. Then they will make back the profit they are use to.
Me personally ill be knocking on all the doors I deliver to and asking them to opt out of the door to door. Wording them up not to say who told them so of course.
Im not doing more work for less money for noone. Rather just quit.

Not a good idea I don't know if you heard of Roger Annies (Google him) he got suspended for doing a similar thing and was only reinstated when there was a national outcry and a petition raised by his customers (or receivers if your AL or AC)LUV THE SMELL OF LETTERS wrote:Door to doors are a good way of making a little extra on your pay. I thats why I was saying I'll word the customer up so they don't say it was me. Although they'd work it out for themselves. Even if I get one customer a month to decline them it will do.
I think they'll have us out delivering door to door only before long. Do a full shift posting just leaflets.
Just a thought

D2D
Haaaaate them...We hit a new low a few months ago when we had to deliver menus for a local Indian restaraunt as D2D.I even had to deliver these to Indian restaraunts and other takeaways on my walk.Could have started a turf war!!!Also,I think there should be some sort of suitability excercise carried out for D2D. Why am I delivering leaflets promising a new career in IT to retirement flats...along with roofing and conservatory services...!!!??
And cos I'm on a mainly firms delivery,I only get bout a fiver for 3 lots of D2D

RM have not supplied any figures at the moment to back this up.
Now that's just a piss take,do they think we're dumb or summin ffs.
Yes they do and they are right. Just cast your mind back to the vote it's given them the green light to do what they like.

Royal Mail charge £50 per 1000, i.e. 5p each, yet we get only a third of this, just 1.67p each for delivering most of them. With three leaflets to each of 500 houses Royal Mail make £50 a week ( or £2500 a year ) compared to our measly £25 a week, and that £25 is due disappear soon. Daylight robbery !LUV THE SMELL OF LETTERS wrote:Door to doors are a good way of making a little extra on your pay. Some times they can get in the way and slow you down. What's the problem ?
I must take issue with some of the comments in this thread, as whilst previously critical of RM strategy and management I cannot see what all the fuss is about regarding DTD.
Why should we care what the content of DTDs is - the subject matter, unless telling people to hit their postman is none of our business - it is a product that we handle for a fee - menu's from one takeaway delivered to another give them an insight into their competition and forego the need for them to go and stand outside the oppositions premises looking at menu boards. Any item whether appropriate for the premises or not stands a chance of being communicated onwards or picked up by someone who IS interested.
I am not really concerned about whether the receiving customer wants, or is interested in the items I deliver whether it be leaflets, bills, requests for court appearances or whatever - the volume of mail of whatever type is keeping me in a job and anyone who wilfully encourages people to endanger that job by reducing our business deserves to be disciplined accordingly. By all means respond with the correct information if asked but DO NOT encourage people to reduce our credibility as a business - there are enough idiots up top who are doing that already!!!
The fee - we apparently get paid approximately a third of the value of a DTD contract - about 4 times what leaflets in free newspapers earn and probably a lot more than the international brigade with their rucksacks get paid. If you think that is a poor rate then find me any business that gives you a third of what it's product earns as payment for your effort. There is a fair bit of work involved before it reaches a delivery office and that has to be paid for too.
There is little doubt that the format will eventually change, but for now I am happy to earn the extra grand a year from DTDs and because I treat them as a bonus and not an inconvenience I get them properly organised and delivered as early in the week as possible and out of the way before the heavier mail starts.
DTD - it's here - deal with it - get paid for it and stop moaning.
