Similar observations about not being 'Yes' men apply in most industries where applicants fail. I'm sure local managers do play a part but confidence has far more to do with being selected than anything. On the whole though, those who tend to say "I was turned down because I wasn't likely to sing the company tune" have no real concept of what management entails.

This site has been a tremendous success since it was started and i'm sure many would agree it gives better information than most union and RM areas!

It also enables us to share our problems, agreements and greviences. The trouble with a public forum though is exactly that .... it is very public.

Royal Mail management sit and scan through here constantly everyday. We have seen sackings, suspensions and threats issued to users of this site and now the creator of this great forum is being hunted.

I have and never will take a backstep from management but i have always been able to do this without resorting to swearing, insulting and naming names. This type of approach means that even if RM do find out who we are they cannot do anything about it.

Sadly when we lower ourselves to their level and start throwing the Fs and Cs around they just sit back analyse what we are posting and slower narrow their search down. We may all think thats fine but 1. none of us can afford to be out of a job and 2. The pressure grows on POSTMAN with every idiotic post.

I am well aware i'll probably get a few replied to this post that will not be so complimentary but to these posters why can't you make your point without the expletives.

In short we are in very real danger of either 1 the lawyers attempting to close this site or 2 POSTMAN realising he is a plonker for putting his own neck on the line and closing it himself.

POSTMAN, TBT, Johnnypick make massive efforts to clean up any dodgy stuff but they can't be on here 24/7. I don't want this forum to close. I love sharing information and views but make no mistake thats the way we're going if things continue.

If someone posts something you don't like then make a reasoned response or even PM the individual.

I think we sometimes lose sight of who the real enemy is. Sadly if some people do not wake up then they'll be getting interviewed, conducted and even sacked by the sly eyes that lurk!!

As to dismissals for staff going on forums etc , it was a case of when not if . RM have lost their pet sites , the right wing one and the one run by Johnboy & Mary Poppins . It will get paranoid , Senior Management say they want a culture change and that means not biting the hand that feeds you etc . Senior Management will want more deference and want to soften people up and knock the stuffing out of people for privatisation .

It was actually a sackable offence in one now privatised industry and yes all the papers were checked daily for staff causing damage to the Industry . The view was too many reps /officials were writing to local/national papers and the orders from on high was "to button up your mouth " .With RM it's how Big Al works FUD (Fear , Uncertainity and Doubt/B******t ), to keep people in line , lots of rumours , hype and spin .

Quite a common management style in the 80's .

Whether it would stand up in a ET , is another issue as it's just the equivalent of saloon bar opinion .

I'm sure you would feel most aggrieved were RM to post negative or unsubstantiated allegations on a public-accessed web-site regarding you or your performance.
That said, there's still nothing official about the two/four employees sacked at Bristol for alleged breaches, which is surprising as normally the PO Intranet lists dismissals for cases considered out of the ordinary.

I find RM have lost the trust of the worker long ago... The trust and confidentiality that you speak of also went out the window for most when the lies and slander that lil adam came out with his line on over paid n under worked... This in my opinion was the last straw.. Was for me... Its understandable for RM to claim poverty and swing the old line about being in a commercial business now n all that melarky BUT When Our glorious leaders that pick up mega bonuses and then claims we dont work for our corn... TAKES THE PISS.. Now to the issue on posties being sacked for misconduct and so called comments on sites and verbals.... Just look at Burlsem and the shite that RM have thrown at them..... If RM have such cases against the 12 and Big Dave and more around the country bring it out into a open fair hearing and not the RM kangaroo court of fair trial and hang em Attitude... RM use the tatic of sling enough mud and some will stick...

L Tommo, I've been through similar. I too have said the same thing, but nearly 2 years down the line & after several months off sick due to a stress related incident, it is still ongoing & I'm beginning to think that lies win every time. Nearly exhausted all channels now & then on my way to ET.
One thing I do know is that at least I can hold my head up & say that I have told the TRUTH....an alien concept to those I have been dealing with!

Now this is just my opinion but a site such as this would wither and die if RM employees felt that their issues, opinions, complaints, and indeed themselves were taken seriously and dealt with in a fair and above board manner.

This board did not exist AFAIK when we were told we were overpaid and inefficient. It then did start up but was a quiet forum with only a few members and then AL and AC said sorry no talking that's the deal take it or leave it. The CWU started to talk about a ballot for IA and since then and during the IA this board has become popular.

There will always been some complaining about work and the boss, its human nature, its how you handle it that make the difference.
