So what you mean is, they extend your round to the max, THEN YOU OWN IT and never get back early.. and you don't get paid for it.

No.

If they did it to individuals then possibly, depending on the circumstances. But as a company-wide thing, I'd be justifiable (please note, I think it'd be awful, I'm just saying what the law's view would most likely be).

They say you won't get paid, but you will get time back on quieter days/months. Could maybe live with that. But over last year have had maybe 2/3 days where I've finished early, whereas I've had to claim almost every single day. Just when exactly would I get this time back.
And you can bet your ass that these excess hours will be part of managers bonus. So there will be lots of potential fraud going on with managers.
Unless they install finger print clocking in/out systems, whole system would be open to abuse.

Surely there would have to be a decent pay for this monstrosity? If we are talking franchise wage then
Surely they will prob make us go self employed ?

This is in no way franchising. A franchise is a genuine business opportunity - this most certainly is not.

A franchise transfers the risk from the employer to the employee, "genuine business opportunity" just being a way of making it look good to the employee. :arrrghhh

It's even better than that... you'd have to pay thousands to buy that franchised delivery off RM!

As for the people who are incapable of getting it done in 7, there must be something wrong with them. That's how it has worked from the day I walked in the door and I don't expect it to change.
So true!

There won't be any mail to hand over. Some poor bugger who isn't on an easy round will have it and will have to deliver it even if you're finishing an hour early and he's three hours late.

'Owning your delivery' is the most dangerous idea RM have ever had and is also a big step on the road to route-franchise. Anyone agreeing to it is nuts (or is close to retirement and has enough seniority to ensure a cushy delivery for the couple of years he has left).
Route ownership imo is the biggest threat to Royal Mail employees. It is the start of the road down to self-employment. The union need to focus on this issue over everything else.

Everything posties enjoy about the job and that isn't as much as it used to be is being targeted by RM, in my opinion deliberately. They as in us like an earlier start with a mid afternoon finish, so let's f**k that up and hopefully lots of the older crew will f**k off, then we can replace them with people on lower pay and worse terms! RM know a lot of us would struggle with open ended finish times, some who don't want it and some with after work commitments. Do they care. An easy cull.

So is this ''owning your own delivery'' an idea that has actually been fielded by RM as of yet ?
