To be fair SP, I would imagine before they decided to move to one wave they probably scoped out whether it was "doable" or not.
You would think the machines would have been the first question, not much point in the whole plan otherwise but if you know better maybe you should email the bosses and save them some embarrassment.

Don't like some of the comments regarding our brothers and sisters in Walsall. Too much second guessing and rumours, so here is some real info.

1. Royal Mail are adamant this trial will be the way of the future for the whole business.
2. The CWU has played a blinder keeping this trial in a office for nearly 1 and a half years, but it is getting close to breaking out.
3. D2Ds are being bundled in Swindon, Walsall as one of the poorest areas in the country never had many d2ds and so the unit never pre bundled,
4, trays of walk sorted mech goes straight to vans, takes 10/15 mins to sort bit of manual, then to van.
LWT is then used with bigger panniers and Mail is delivered using back to back method.
5. IEs confirm savings on indoor, outdoor method slightly longer, but not equal.

Happy to find out some real answers to questions anyon e has.

Ok, how are redirections/ keepsafes done?
How do staff split the sequenced mail into loops?
Is this done in the back of a van?
How is health and safety maintained?
Are the staff starting on time?
Are they taking their full meal relief?
How is the d2d carried between addresses and is it being merged on the doorstep or as I suspect...while moving between delivery points?
Our sequenced trays sometimes come with the wrong labels on them, who takes responsibility?
Our sequenced trays contain missorts and mail not proper to that duty, what happens to QofS, is that being fudged?
Is there any monitoring in place to ensure these guys are doing the job properly?
Are they working their hours or are they being bribed with an early finish?

This sounds like an easy trial to kill stone dead if the people involved were doing the job properly and the local union was on top of the situation so if they're playing such a blinder why does royal mail want to roll it out further?

Redirections /keepsakes are picked out of mech from tray, and off frame for manual.

Staff are aware we're their loops start and finish and can move mail accordingly,

Carrying pre bundled d2d in small pouch, so it's back to back for mech and manual plus d2d from pouch.

Questions re Missorts or wrong tray labelling are taken up at sorting office,part off the trial is improving quality of mail from sorting and too be fair it has improved, but remember only 12 walks here.

They took a few weeks to settle but they do now and take breaks, no choice with IEs and top brass in daily attendance

Re are they doing job properly and who is looking, this office for well over a year has had on average 10 high level RM suits, IEs from RM and CWU, local ,area div and national reps virtually daily,

They want to roll it out mate, because they think it will make them time and money, it's not the CWUs decision to make as we don't run the company, our collective decision will be taken later when the company goes nationwide with the idea.

I think they are playing a blinder, RM wanted all this completed in 6 months, we are now 1 year past that thanks to the right union people in place,asking the right questions at the right time.

It is not upto the 12 posties in Walsall to scupper the ideas but for us all to take a position when asked nationall
