Here's an interesting question for you reps,

How much training as reps have you had?

with such important issues such as conduct, attendance, balloting and picketing do you really feel you've had comprehensive training?

Why do you have to be so bitter at a time like this andy, If there are issues to be addressed with the Union I would suggest we wait untill the issues we are currently dealing with have been resolved.

May be if you are really concerned about the training of reps I am sure being an ex rep you have submitted a motion to your Branch to take to conference to ensure that reps recieve the adequate training.

Lets use the next few days to be posotive about the Union !!

I am bitter but with good reason. One of the complaints my area rep made about me was that I was "trained" and should know better.

It was actually a constructive post. I am trying to see if I am trained at the same level as every one else.

I am in no way underestimating what you have been through nor am I critisising you for posting it on here, after all all aspects of Postal life should be discussed, its just that at a time when this site is starting to see an increase in visitors (Mainly Postal CWU Members) I think at a time like this they need to see some sort of solidarity from all corners of the country and all Current and Ex reps, at this moment there is only one enemy and it does not wear a Uniform.

A Show of Solidarity Nationwide will surely deliver a YES vote and with all due respect your job could be gone if your are a rep or not, so lets fight the one enemy together.

I have had C.L.A.I.T course at Alvescot

weekend course for political officers at Alvescot

TUC health and safety stage 1 and stage 2 at peterborough regional college

One day mandatory equal ops training for reps again at petrborough regional college

3 day induction course

2 days course covering attendance procedure and conduct code

MTSF course at peterborough mail centre

Forthcoming courses are

postal skills specalist secondary course or something like that to be held at peterborough mail centre

union skills 1 to be held at peterborough mail centre

Bloody hell Big daz, I had 5 days in bournemouth on a reps course. THATS IT!

I have had:

ULR 1 - Bournemouth - 5 days
H&S induction - 2 days
Mandatory 1 day Equality and Diversity - 1 day
TUC Speakers in Schools - TUC HQ - 1 day
CWU Conduct, IR, Attendance - 3 days
CWU Union skills 1 - TUC - 4 days

And not forgetting attendance at Conference and ULR Conference which is the most valuable training you will ever have (in my opinion), various Regional ULR meetings and one day TUC seminars!

Barry I understand your frustration with me but this is mostly my point. I just don't see this solidarity. We have 163 members of staff and they are split all ways. We need proper leadership through this time.

I HAD THE 5 DAY INDUCTION TRNG IN THE ELSTED WHAT A PISS UP WE HAD!!!!!!!!!

I THINK SOME REPS IN CERTAIN AREAS DONT GET THE REQUIRED TRAINING DUE TO BRANCH FUNDS,BUT SOME COURSES HAVE BEEN AGREED TO BE PAID BY R/M THIS YEAR.

DAVE WARD IN A FEW SPECIAL BRIEFINGS STATED THAT LOCOL REPS WERE THE MAIN PERSONS AND MORE NEEDED TO BE DONE . I AM STILL WAITING...

BUT THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR SLAGGING OF HQ UNITED WE STAND ...TO GET THE BIG YES VOTE

Been with Royal Mail 4 yrs, spent 3 yrs mainly arguing with managers and not liking the way the office was run. Been a rep for 5 months, basically so I can try and see fair play and treatment of the members. Had no training, flying from the seat of my pants most of the time although area rep is only a phone call away. If I think something is wrong I will stand up and say so and try to get it changed. We have a lot on our plate with RM trying to bypass the union and implement changes at a local level.

And as you will see in another thread i have just been offered a place on a 6 year course ending in a degree in H&S and Labour studies.
