Re: Upset and scared :(
I just wonder if ashy had ever signed any personal declarations which included clear provisions regarding Royal Mail's policy on wilful delay of mail.
The first duty of the Post Office is to ensure that letters, parcels, telegrams, telephone messages and all other communications or items entrusted to it reach the people for whom they are intended promptly and safely, and that the information in them reaches no one entitled to it.
SAFETY OF POSTAL PACKETS.... It is an offence to STEAL, SECRETE or DESTROY a letter, parcel or other postal packet in course of transmission by post, and heavy penalties, including terms of imprisonment, are provided for such offences. It is also an offence to OPEN or DELAY (without proper authority) a letter or parcel or any other postal packet in course of transmission by post, and penalties of fine or imprisonment are provided for such offences.
Also relevant are the terms of the "Royal Mail Conduct Code", agreed between Royal Mail and the CWU the recognised trade union. Again, was ashy aware of the terms of the Royal Mail Conduct Code. If committing any wilful delay offences, you will certainly be caught. You may be dismissed. You may also be prosecuted.

Re: Upset and scared :(
Thanks for this post mate, i can relate a lot with it. When i started i got sent out with a guy who'd been there for 5 years, showed me the 'ropes' but mostly banged on about how easy it was. On the days we'd go around my round he'd show me different routes and i'd do one estate he'd do another and we'd be finished for half 12. He never took me back to the office though to show me what to do with mail i couldn't complete and i figured out the stickers you put on undelivered parcels myself, thats all i knew. I agree with him sort of that it was easy but when you don't exactly know the round as it did have a few weird council estates which had roads within roads so on my first week alone i got lost a lot. Ended up finishing at like 5-6pm, i didn't complain though because i thought when i learnt the walk i'd be fine and i never once claimed for overtime ever, i didn't even know how to get a uniform, when i worked at other places they usually just sorted that kind of stuff for you.raikkonen85 wrote:alot of people here saying he did wrong and stupid things. i wil ltell my own experience and i think im lucky to be still working in this company.
i started in june 2008. on the first 3 days i went out with my trainer. he is s**t. i cant believe he is a trainer. he said nothing. i went out on my won on the saturday and got lost abit but then was ok after that.
for the first few months i didnt claim overtime. because no one showed me, i didnt know i could. i was naive yes. at the moment our office is lucky, we have 2 fantastic manger imo. much better from what ive seen at other offices. but i remember one manager who wasnt helpful. he was helfful in terms of making sure you took all your mail out the office. but when i asked him one time i wanted to finish at 2 (my finsihing time) he flipped and told me i was a useless postman and of no use to him. i told him i was finishing at 4pm for the last 2 weeks but my finishing time is 2 and im working for nothing. he said nothing. at this point i was ready to throw in the towel and quit. i was encourage by my family to keep at it. it really got bad when i was a spare one day. i was doing half walks, way past my finsih time. then they said i had to do another half and finish it. even though it was after 2 pm. i was out till about 7pm in the dark in an area ive never been to in my life. this was at christmas time. another time i broke a proceedure which i was never told about. my trainer didnt tell me about this whihc he should. no one did but eventualy one guy told me about my 'rights'. this was months after starting. finally the the manager everyone didnt like in our office left and things start to pick up, there was light.
now, i love my job. there is no secureity which worries me but i do love it. i had to learn everything from making mistakes, mistakes which have cost the comany, but wasnt my fault, but theirs for not teaching somethings i would never have thought i needed to know. i have sympathy for most posties who starrt our or quit. there under alot of preasure and are bullied. i try to tell as much to new starts when ever we get them. alot dont hack it and quit soon after. but if you can manage a few months, youl be ok.
Even the day IB caught me leaving the DO at 3:30 i hadn't claimed that as overtime but naturally none of that was mentioned, they kept me for interviews and what-not until half 6 at night.
I met my union rep on the very first day at my office and never saw or spoke to him after that. After that 3-4 day training period, i figured what to do with things like D2D's myself as i wasn't shown they just were under my frame in their boxes, i came in early at 8 every morning and my walk was presorted on the frame and i had to kill off then bundle up thats all i was shown, the D2D's i don't really know when i was expected to include them into my round, i used to sort them onto the frame when i went back to the office after my walk in my own time.
Sorry if it sounds like i'm moaning a lot i did genuinely enjoy my job in the first few weeks until time pressures hit me. I know for sure if i'd of asked or of been shown what to do with undelivered mail i know i wouldn't be in this mess but i know thats no excuse considering i knew it was legally wrong. As for telling someone i'm not the most outgoing person but i'm not quiet exactly, i couldn't really relate with anyone in my DO they were all twice my age and none of them spoke to me. So really except my manager who i felt would certainly sack me if he found out about what was in my boot i didn't feel i could speak to anyone so i was trapped. :(

Thats quite shocking and really sad that the job has come down to this where no one talks to the new people.
I can still remember (just) that sinking sick feeling when your out on your own first time and totally lost around the streets

Re: Upset and scared :(
I know mate, at first i saw the job as i don't want to say a stop-gap but because i had plans to go to Uni in September and the contract ended at the tail end of August it seemed perfect to fill that gap. After going out and being shown though.. i thought it was the best job in the world and actually could see me doing it for a much longer period, was loving it until things turned sour.krussel wrote:atashy wrote:i couldn't really relate with anyone in my DO they were all twice my age and none of them spoke to me. In my short time there i think the only people i ever spoke to was the DOM, a line manager and the guy who took me round the first week and also a lady who was a new starter and attended the same induction as me at one of the mail centres. Spoke to her alot as she was struggling as well finishing at like 4PM everyday but i think she quit as I didn't see her for 2 weeks then i got caught out.

Ok i have not read all these posts so dont kow if you have been prosecuted or not .
I do however have exstensive xperience dealing with the royal mail ib as i was in the exact same sitation and it seems as though you have been mislead with some of the posts that replied ealier in the thread.
For a start i know by law that the Royal Mail CANNOT search your car or your persons it is illegal they have no such powers.
The royal mail CANNOT arrest you officially they can enforce only a citezens arrest but they must have to witness a REAL CRIME takin place for them to do so
No royal mail Ib staff can enforce a section18 search of your car this is also illegal unless you give them permission you are not legally obliged to do so.
The roal mail CANNOT work in accordance of the the police and criminal evidence act (PACE) they have NO authority to do so and you may say nothing and refuse any interview with the IB AND insists THAT THE POLICE TALK TO YOU NOT BIAS ROYAL MAIL STAFF of couse these fukkers dont want you to know this because they acy on your fear and lack of knowledege.
Royal Mail IB are effectively citezens ,i know this because i went to court with them for exactly the same thing and they had to admit illegal arrest illegal detention illegal search and an interview with them was non admissable as evidence in crown court .
My advice to any royal mail staff caught in this circumstances is this,
Refuse a search as they have no poweer under section 18 of the PACE insists that you are interviewed by the police and not royal mail staff as they wi use your interview to shaft you.You havee the right to WALK away if a royal mail ib member tries to enforce an arrest and you should tell them this or ask them if its a citezens arrest they are carrying out they have no choice but to let you go.Also say nothting to them at interview if this becomes a the case .I know all this bcause i was taken to court for the very same thing but i fought back in the end it cost them 20 yes 20 grand to take me to court and two yers of legal arguments and a tribunal at 6 yes 6 grand as well they wish they never met me i teel ya lol lol

Re: Upset and scared :(
RML, POL and PFW maintain operational Security and Investigation teams, led by Heads of Security and staffed by professional investigators and security managers.
The investigators in particular are trained to rigorous standards and operate in accordance with all requisite legislation, including the Police & Criminal Evidence Act, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and the Postal Services Act. Security managers normally have experience in a wide range of operational and commercial areas, and develop technical competence in fields such as crime risk management and modelling, electronic and mechanical security, behavioural security and so on.
Although bound by the provisions of the acts detailed above and others, and accorded certain privileges in the use of police facilities and access to criminal records and communication networks, these days Royal Mail investigators have no special powers or rights. Suspects are interviewed and searched on a voluntary basis, and where arrests are required the support of police officers or other statutory law enforcement officers is usually sought.

fishtank wrote:Ashy you are miles away from the CPS.
First of all you would have to be interviewed by the police and they would decide whether to charge you with any criminal offence.
Then THEY would send a report to the CPS before the CPS would decide whether to progress with a prosecution.
If you haven't been charged by now it is UNLIKELY that IBs recommendation to the police contains criminal charges.
But i STRESS this is only my OPINION.
CPS stands for crown prosecution service so unless youve commited a murder, or a very serious offence then you wont be going to the crown courts as that is where you will find them. From what you have done ashy you are a million miles away from magistrates never mind crown, so dont worry about the cps.
Willful delay is a sackible offence, youve been sacked that will be the end of it mate, your probably have a letter in due course from RM saying they have dealt with you and thats that. What you need to do now mate, is put it all behind you, as "WE ALL" make mistakes sometime in our lives, well except the smelly cat, as she's the worlds only perfect species, and get another job and start supporting your young family. Dont look back, look forward. I was like you once where everything went wrong due to my own doing and managed to turn it round, so if i can then you can.
Good luck.

What part of you thought it was a good idea to take other people's mail home????? For goodness sake, don't blame other people for 'not telling you', I assume when you were born you had a tongue in your head, learnt to speak and ask questions. I have no sympathy for you, you deserve everything coming to you. You won't get any job with a position of trust, RM will see to it that any potential employer will find out what you did. It doesn't even matter whether or not you stole anything from the mail, it was wrong and if you'd bothered to read your contract (you can read can't you?) it will tell you in there. Funny how you understand what willful delay means but have no idea you committed it?
You should have thought about your wife and child before you did such a stoopid thing.
That's if you are a real postman of course.................?
This has to be the most shameful post on here?!?!
Ofcourse what he did was wrong, maybe misguided? who knows?.But you are not the judge, jury and executioner!.If he was a thief then go ahead and have your rant at him,but he's not!.I have seen on several occasions gaffers delaying mail in the office, not acceptable I know, but nether the less they still HAVE a job!.
I can only imagine the amount of stress he must be going through at the moment, that topped with an insensitive keyboard witch from hell
