It's sunshining here and as for the other part of the posting I'm not even going to pretend I understand it
It means he is a Protestant but my wife is a Catholic. Hun and Tim being the pejorative terms that the blue and green halves of this city use for each other.
But then we seem to have provoked a civil war.
Tiocfaidh ar la - means "our day will come" which might be fair enough if he is talking about Celtic FC but the quote is attributed to an IRA prisoner.
Everything clear to everyone now?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Thanks for the explanation ccr - I knew Celtic and Rangers were an issue but had no idea it was rooted in religion - I'm not a religious person was brought up RC but quickly lost it having been a soldier not easy to reconcile one with the other.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If you have a different version feel free to enlighten me.
I promise I won't call you an idiot or a loud mouth.
So you think Bobby Sands rip invented the language?
It was in common use long before, where do you think he got it from?

Perhaps if you had not been so dismissive of his views, which I have addressed separately he may have owned up to believing the popular misconception that its was originally used by Bobby Sands. In fact it has been used in many different wordings and meanings but Booby Sands Diary and the Celtic Fanzine are the two most well known. There is however an earlier source from the early 1900s - James Joyce used it in his book "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man"

Apparently although it cannot be confirmed it was also said at the siege of Derry.

CWU don't give a monkey about part timers, they only make up 20% of the business apparently. I am now going to be losing £80 a week in d2d payments (I usually work over 40 hours a week, and do the d2ds that other FTers in my office leave as they can't be bothered delivering them), with the bonuses being pro-rata also. Pro-Rata, has there ever been a more disgusting phrase. I'm voting no, then cancelling my membership. At least if the managers screw us over I'll get paid more than going on strike for the union

Perhaps it would have been more correct to say the phrase is often attributed to Bobby Sands. Obviously he didn't invent the language but he is associated with the phrase.
And consequently the phrase is associated with Republicanism.
I don't think anyone from the green half of my DO would use that phrase and not expect a reaction from the blue half.
Neither do I think anyone would walk into the Rosie and use that phrase and expect them to think he was quoting James Joyce.

That's more like it.
I was trying, probably a bit heavy handedly,to point out the difference between the IRA since The Troubles and the IRA of 1916.It is associated with Republicanism because, well because it is a Republican slogan!
Robert Sands MP,brave man,but ultimately misguided in his actions.Thatcher was never going to back down and 10 men that didn't need to die gave up their lives.

I'm sure the green half of your DO would take exception to 'Fenian' or 'Tarrier',even though they are neither 16th century Irish dissidents or members of a road tarmacking crew!

Anyway, this is probably boring our English and Welsh friends here to tears, take it easy mo chara.
