Good point, we either run a service or we don’t. They need to be very careful what they wish for here in regards to the USO.

Royal Mail must have the largest fleet in the country. Why cant the government and Royal Mail agree to the following

1. Get chemists and pharmaceuticals to mass produce small packets for prescription deliveries. Royal mail charge £1.50 per prescription. We all know what a row of pills looks like they would fit very nicely into our letter fittings! Why is it that we cant be delivering these things on mass!! To every house every day

2. Hampers for elderly in isolation these could be chilled parcels like chemists sometimes get. Each with fresh food or toiletries inside. Surely this would be easy enough to implement. f**k getting the army to deliver these things, those meatheads wont know how to deliver to the rural places!!

COME ON ROYAL MAIL WE ARE A PUBLIC SERVICE USE US OR LOSE US!!!!

This isn't a negotiation.
It's a list of demands, in fact since there's no threat involved it's more of a wish list.
The CWU and Royal Mail are barely on speaking terms and the union has no real leverage to make any of it happen.

Some of the things will come to pass in the normal course of events and some are already happening but most of them can't or won't happen and the union knows that.

So what's the end game?
Are the union just showing off a bit, playing to the members?
We don't have time for that.
Those demands / wishlist are the minimum that is absolutely essential to avoid people losing their lives and their loved ones.

I don't see what else they can do. They are there to represent us, and that's what we *need*. Now. Today.

In these circumstances the CWU probably have more leverage than you think.

Exactly. My fear is that if we go down to a 3 day week, who is to say that will ever change. I can’t believe the cwu has even suggested this.

It's a lethal pandemic. Young, healthy people with families are suffocating to death in ICU wards without enough staff or equipment.

We can't afford to worry about what happens "when it's over". For now, we just need to stay alive and keep others safe.

You can do both. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

Agreed. And the CWU have demanded the *bare minimum* to keep us, our families and the public safe.

What else should they do?

Ok I'm going to admit now, I sent an email to Royal Mail about the situation, I suggested a few things.
They said then sent my email off to Ricky Mcaulay, I have more chance of getting things changed than the cwu.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Reduction in days does not have to be a reduction in hours. Could be 3 days of 12hrs 40mins for full timers. I’m not saying that’s practical or desirable but everyone seems to be assuming the proposal is to work 3 days with the same start and finish times as now.

We would surely be on the 80 per cent pay rule otherwise we may as well all go off sick!

Be much easier to stagger starting times, half the staff come in at 6, should be out by 10at the latest, then the rest come, change the rota week by week.

80% of full pay of up £2500 a month for sitting on arse in house for 3 month when designated a non key worker never going to happen. Oh wait on a minute

Thats what im doing , told manager there is no way i shall be working next to someone 2 feet away. So coming in around 9 to 10 in the morning. Yes its a pain having to finish later , but i would rather do that than increase my chances of catching this virus. Chances are i could still catch it on my round but were screwed and dont have much choice but to go out.

I think a lot of people are going to make themselves ill if they lose all sense of proportion.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Do you have any mail to sort as early as 06:00? For some DOs where the mail all comes in on one van that van won't have departed the MC by 06:00.
