Well that only helps my point. If ur duty is too big then getting rid of d2d's would only help the size of ur duty. So that its closer to its official finishing time.Chris413 wrote: Depends if your route is so big that you are already doing 1 1/2 to 2 hours overtime every day, let alone time to get D2D into the frame.

What about the people who work in sales, securing the D2D contracts would they keep their jobs?
And the people who work in the D2D bundling centres, would they keep their jobs?
Can you see further than the end of your nose?
If people don't want to do D2D then they don't have to. They just tell their manager they won't be doing any more.
There will be consequences of course, but at least they will not have to do D2D any more and they won't be jeopardising anyone's job but their own.

Wasn't gonna go up the chain where it would impact all them, then impact all the companies that gives us the junk mail. Which in turn impacts all the ppl knocking down trees to make the things up. Gotta keep them in a job as well..

In the real world it's called JUNK MAIL.
Its a stupid arguement to worry about mail bundling jobs telesales etc etc. Sales people will get other sales jobs, printers will still print, bundlers will get jobs with DPD or possibly sorting the increasing parcels numbers?

Celgar - just curious - in other threads you say you frequently don't get paid overtime you are due - does the prep time for putting in a weeks D2D on Mon/Tue take you over your time and do you deliver D2D to houses without mail on a Mon/Tue? Is this one of the scenarios where you're not getting paid for OT?Celgar wrote:I know the standard is a sixth per day but I would rather get the majority of them delivered on Monday & Tuesday when it is a bit quieter. You don't want slots full of D2Ds on Wednesday & Thursday when there is loads more mail. As long as they all get delivered in the week I don't think RM is too bothered. The one sixth idea is designed to avoid arguments between posties about some not doing their fair share.Bahia Feliz wrote:You're not supposed to 'throw them all up' on one day!Celgar wrote: I had six D2Ds this week and it took over 90 minutes to throw them all up.
Delivering D2D on a Wed/Thu makes more sense to me if you're going to loads of houses.

Is it?azza30 wrote: Its a stupid argument to worry about mail bundling jobs
The original post stated that stopping D2D won't cost jobs. It obviously will.
Is the job of our union not to protect the jobs (and terms and conditions) of all its members?
Why should they get other jobs because you don't want to deliver D2D?
As I said, if you don't want to deliver D2D then you don't have to.
Be a man tomorrow and tell your DOM you won't be delivering JUNK MAIL

The vast majority of the mail we deliver is junk mail, why does not having a delivery address cause so much difficulty and confusion?
Why stop at unaddressed mail, why don't we get rid of everything we consider "junk" except maybe hospital appointments and the occasional DWP letter? We could have 5000 calls each for a year or so and lose 70% of the workforce until the inevitable happens, no redundancy though just wait until the business goes bust and then sell what's left to DPD, should be a laugh.

If you can get that done in your duty time you obviously don''t have enough work on your duty.Celgar wrote:I know the standard is a sixth per day but I would rather get the majority of them delivered on Monday & Tuesday when it is a bit quieter. If you are booking overtime to do this then be very careful
1/6th is mandatory in our office, we cannot deliver or prep any excess. If we have any spare time we prep other walks... we don't have spare time anymore

The basic premise of the argument seems to be that RM can afford to pay a 10% pay rise by stopping one of its revenue streams.
That would appear to be economic illiteracy at its finest.

With RM did ever get rid of d2d, with them being classed as work load, wouldn't RM them look at removing some hours from each DO?

I think that position is quite naive and perhaps a little parochial.buchanpeter wrote:dropping from 39 to 35 hours. 4 hours.clashcityrocker wrote:Thank God you are not negotiating on behalf of our union.buchanpeter wrote:CWU Should seriously ask Royal Mail for a deal where we get no pay rise for 3 years and scrap D2D's. We won't be getting a reduction to 35 hours per week without improving our efficiency, which in essence means doing the job we do now, for the same money but fewer hours.
You remove D2Ds from the scenario that doesn't increase efficiency, it reduces the number of people needed to cover the product as it goes through the pipeline. It will close all the Bundling centres, it will reduce the headcount in Mail Centres, it will mean duties will have to bigger in delivery offices to maintain the same level of efficiency, it means closing down the marketing part of the business that deals with D2Ds.
It will also reduce Royal Mail profit as it is one of the few areas outside parcels that is showing constant, albeit small, growth. Less profit means less chance the CWU have in negotiating increases in wages.

Just in one postcode area in the depot, the amount of D2D for a residential duty can be anything between zero and seven in a week.
Yet the indoor work (letter/parcel sorting, portering) times don't take this variance into consideration on a week by week, or even a daily basis (if someone has decided to prep them in bulk into the frame earlier in the week and now have "free time" Thurs-Sat).
The official prep time for collating and putting D2Ds into a frame are a joke, especially when you have 3+ D2Ds, eight RM2000 "boxes" (~160 delivery points) can easily take 45+ minutes to collate when you have 6+ D2D... But not according to the official figures!
The variance between duties as to how D2D are expected to be prepped and delivered by day off covers is diabolical...
You could have one duty holder want you to prep 8 boxes Mon-Fri and take where you are going with other mail, clearing a tiny few on a Sat if need be by marking them up
You could have another duty holder want you to prep at least 7 boxes Mon-Fri and you take everything you throw in, with none to deliver when covering on Sat
You could have another duty holder want you to prep 8 boxes Mon-Fri and take where you are going from the whole frame, but when you cover their Sat, they leave you four boxes to deliver
etc. etc.
I really don't like the idea of carrying a separate D2D bundle, like they are talking about with this bench merging nonsense that is supposedly going to save 25+ minutes, but it should make D2D prep and delivery more consistent between duties. However, it will also demonstrate how many of us currently deliver them relatively efficiently, by delivering a vast majority of them only when the address has other mail... D2D "cold calling" in bulk everyday could easily mean you are adding 15+ minutes of outdoor time in suburban areas, just to deliver this rubbish.
