Appears a massive waste of our money if they knew they had no hope of winning the fight too.

RM have been forced to enter time limited mediation that they would not have agreed to without the injunction. Personally, I think RM are in a weaker negotiating position now than they were a few months ago. They must now enter talks in the knowledge that the CWU turnout and vote in the ballot has strengthened the union’s negotiating position.

Either side could have gone to court beforehand and yet chose not to do so. RM wanted to bypass the CWU and appeal direct to staff and with all their propoganda they still failed miserably. The CWU could have chosen to go to court before now but needed a) run the successful Four Pillars campaign and know for sure that they had the membership on board via the ballot outcome and b) delay IA closer to Christmas to increase their leverage in negotiations with RM.

On the Pension issue, I am puzzled why RM chose NOT to show the alternative DC option in the illustrations sent to members as the ‘old’ proposal no longer exists and is therefore irrelevant.

The alternative DC pension could not be simpler... They cannot show that option because it is simply a savings pot that has your contribution up to a max of 6% and a generous 12 percent on top for DB pension members as opposed to max of 10 percent for current and future DC members.

The DC members got no illustration. We can easily find out by ringing Zurich Assurance or even manage the pension Online.

RM's appeal failed because the Union has a head start and were ready to use a catch all appeal even though some of the message is not entirely true or some are just fillers...

RM also failed to capitalise on the division that already exist probably for fear of failure on that count or the fact that it will also expose some of their failings and their previous divisive methods. Furthermore, they did not want to spend more or commit to even more spending otherwise they would have offered the part timers more; in more ways than one...

The issues as voted for (for those that understood) are still there, the ballot is still valid for a long while, strikes will still damage RM whenever it takes place and Negotiations will continue in, this time, in earnest.

* It is false for CWU to claim that RM are not talking because they have admitted themselves that they have won some concessions already, at least the sickness procedure change has been conceded by RM.

They are all playing Politiks.

Life is Politics.

However, I thought, and I may be wrong, that the Unions claim wasn't that RM was not talking, more that they weren't talking in good faith and that they had to keep going back and check things with more senior managers. Also that the people who could make the decisions were not attending the meetings.

Though Terry et al can't make any decisions either.
They have to come back and ask us for approval.

Nothing wrong in approval just don't use a court of law if you never had any intention of talking never mind coming to an agreement which could be put to a wider audience for ratification not stringing along for short term ideology's with long term consequences for us all.

This charade makes the union look like amatuerish buffoons and many people are p*ssed off with the union for this :evil/mad
The union TRIED to conform with the clause. What more could they have done?
Not agreed to the clause when they signed the last 'deal of the century'?

Some of us saw this coming when they agreed to a no-strike clause during the last disagreement. What kind of union agrees to a no-strike stipulation?
I understand your point, but I meant in this instance. I make no judgement on whether the clause is good or bad for the union, I'm simply saying that I think they couldn't really have played the game any other way, given the existence of the clause.

We'd like to say to you to watch out for all the vultures who'll be flying to
Clydeside to tell you what to do. The same people who signed the productivity
deals that started the redundancy ball rolling are now trying to feed off your
struggle. If there's going to be an occupation it's got to be for real. Take the
yards from the bosses and keep them. The Labour Party, the Unions and their
minions, the CP with its productivity craze, the same bastards who always sell
us out, will try to fob you off with gestures like one day strikes and one day
occupations, petitions, etc., which will achieve bugger all.
