Pay offer update! 0.37% Self funded!
The offer as disclosed was made as a closed offer. The CWU rejected this and a slightly and I mean slightly higher offer made which was also rejected. Royal Mail have confirmed they will make an open offer today or tomorrow. As some of you may be aware that a closed offer means the union cannot reveal. An open offer can be communicated.
In terms of legacy payments , there is 21 million 375000 in legacy payments. A 1% pay increase flowing through to allowances is £43.7 million. So you can see the legacy payments shared in any pay rise is worth less than 0.5%. However the impact to individuals who receive these payments is significant to them and it is not fair.
Those who quote well we did that with the early shift allowance fail to remember the alternative to trapping that money into a permanent supplement along with door to door payment was MTSF which has a maximum of 3 years pay protection. Fishtank makes a point that when individuals leave that payment is lost and that is true. However how do you say to the ExPHG who receives and has done since 2000 the ex phg supplement of £20 reserve rights along with the 25% differential on shift and overtime you will lose that next week as it will help pay everyone else £1.42 ? or the person who has receive RRIS Payments £23 per week or £16.31. Or the person who monthly receives a ICS bonus or PBS bonus and has done since 2000 that you no longer receive this. Or all members who receive the ex PBS £100 christmas lump sum this is gone as it will now fund you £1.42 per week ?
Remember this is not a pay rise , this is a pay restructuring offer. The total payroll will remain the same.
The Union want a pay increase for our members not a decrease for many and a small increase for the majority.
Below is the make up of the total pay bill
Total fixed costs basic pay including London Weighting £ 3,677,235.522
Total Overtime £ 482, 747 ,343
Total Shift allowance £111, 393, 431
Total Skills allowance £32,693,998
Total Legacy Bonus £21,375,460
Total Reserved rights £14,867,174
Total payroll £4,373,823,333

payrise insult.
I would thought Royal Mail will give us 2% to keep the work force happy as it can't afford bad publicity or another strikes.

Unless I'm really mistaken, isn't RRIS part of London weighting? The old bit, not the new bit they added after the 2003 wildcat strikes?

I don't believe that this a Black & White issue TD. I can only comment from a deliveries point of view, for all I know you processing Guys could have a large part of your salary made up from these type of allowances? I note you stress "Important" Allowances.tinkerdil wrote: Why do you see the validity in "perhaps they could phase some allowances out"? Either you don't receive any historical allowances or you like the idea of a share of other people's allowances, or both. If the reason is non of these then why would you wish to deny fellow CWU members important allowances?
I believe I'm a fairly Average Postie and the only thing I get on top of my wages is the Delivery Supplement. The reason I mentioned that maybe some allowances could be phased out over a couple of years is to avoid the type of thing that others have discussed. i.e "If I lost my £20 a week X allowance it would be a BIG shock"! The reason only "Some" allowances is because perhaps some are more relevant or current than others, and should be retained.

Let's be honest if you were a PHG a failed 1 at that and you're now doing a posties job in the same alley why should you be getting ex amount more forever than the guy next to you?

What some posters fail to understand is that when these allowances were added after the agreement with the union and were awarded in 'Perpetuity', which suited Royal Mail as these allowances would phase themselves out when the recipient leaves the job or moves to gets promoted.
In perpetuity
For an indefinite period of time; forever.
1. in perpetuity - for life
2. in perpetuity - for an indefinitely long time
It is easy for some to say, 'well I don't get it so why should they' but think of the overall picture, these guys gave up a lot when the their job was changed dramatically at some point and this was soften the blow without leaving 'fellow postmen' in financial hardship.
Remember, Royal Mail still saved a fortune when these things were introduced and these guys lost a lot then too.
Think about if this was you .... You have taken your wage lines to the bank manager and arranged a mortgage on your earnings and associated permanent allowances and your employer wants to cut your wages by in some cases around £40 per week That's approx £2000 per year.
This would be enough to push some of your fellow workers over the edge and in some cases result in losing their home.
So please before you judge others just take a moment to think 'what if this was me' and not allow Royal Mail to divide and conquer even more than what they have been doing in the last few years.

Well said what if some of these keyboard warriors were told instead of 30 hour contract you now have a zero hour contract and you dont have a pension or sick pay or even holiday pay. Don't begrudge your fellow workers but those who begrudge you and your efforts for their is always someone who is cheaper and dumber than you.Celtic warrior wrote:What some posters fail to understand is that when these allowances were added after the agreement with the union and were awarded in 'Perpetuity', which suited Royal Mail as these allowances would phase themselves out when the recipient leaves the job or moves to gets promoted.

Like I thought you're not entitled to an opinion on here unless it's the same as in this case the people who receive these payments..
You do realise by someone having a thought different to your own it actually makes no odds to the outcome of what we all agree is a ridiculous offer for a company raking it in!

Of course you are entitled to an opinion. Have any posts on this thread been deleted, have you been banned.
Of course if you want to state an opinion you have to be prepared to accept that others have different ones and are allowed to voice them just as you have done.

When people start saying things like keyboard warrior in response makes you think keep it to yourself or maybe call them the same for their different opinion but that would be childish?
We all work for the same company and surely it's better to have a bit of debate on here life would be boring if we all thought the same no offence meant to anyone
