I think the CWU has been complicit in the deliberate understaffing of offices in order to protect overtime opportunities.Budfrog wrote:I do not believe that RM cannot fill it's Vacs within a reasonable time frame - T&Cs/Wages compare very favourably with to other employers in this sector of the industry and I simply do not believe that RM's HR/recruitment department is that incompetent. It is more likely to be a policy decision to deliberately under-staff units as a means of improving productivity levels at minimum cost and without any agreement with CWU or it's membership.

wannabeek wrote:yeah, agree with that about the tenuous Whistl connection. Whistl was never ever in their wildest plans going to hit our deep rural area and we have getting more and more understaffed for ages now. It's getting ludicrous now, full-timers retire and just are not replaced at all, even with part-timers. There are not even any adverts for any vacancies anywhere near us. It has now become normal to fail duties every week, they just try to make sure that the same ones don't fail too often.
It does remind me of a factory I worked in many years ago which was on the brink of collapse and all the staff had given up hope for many weeks, managers and assembly-workers alike.
we had a whistl inspired revision.our duties were increased by around 20-30 minutes as we had lost 30% of mail to them. When we got it all back, our walks remained the same as apparently they has only taken 3or4 percent from us,as a result no walks are achievable, cant wait for christmas

Re: Staffing Issues
Is it normal everywhere to have managers prepping walks, doing IPS occasionally, distributing trays, doing packets/tracks, even clearing up trays or is that just what happens in my local DO's?
I thought all manager were supposed to do was drink tea & walk about with a clip board..

Re: Staffing Issues
Six months on and line managers are still doing OPG work - sorting on the IPS, prepping duties, delivering with other posties. Not all, but some, especially the newer deputy managers who seem to work exceptionally hard at their job!
We recruited new staff of course, but managers are still doing our work. Anyone would think that this is actually a plan to turn some full-time managers back into posties. Does anyone remember when we had team leaders

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
