We had a bloke in this morning complaining that "the postman never rang the bell". After the usual rigmarole, he demonstrated where his bell was on our door. On top of the lintel. He'd moved it up there because it was multiple occupancy flats and people "kept ringing his bell when it weren't for him".
You couldn't make it up.
