Re: London Dispute Update
For what it's worth the union should contact each and every member now with what it is they are actually negotiating on, how it affects them as an individual and how it affects the union if there is insufficient collective support for the issues. No bullshit, no bluster, tell it as it really is. They should withdraw from the unholy alliance of the last agreement and start from scratch. As ft says even before they go to the table the CWU should set out the parameters of the discussion and make no bones about exactly where the line is drawn. Labour are no longer in power and privatisation is almost upon us so to show weakness now would really be the end of the road.

At no time have i thrown anything from a pram.
At no time did you ask what i think should be the CWU response to compulsory redundancy.
My opinion on what should be done to fight the threat of compulsory redundancy is clearly laid out although you will need to re-read my posts.

NO INSULTS
More childish abuse rocky....how surprising.
He explained his position....several times....it's just that you don't like it...tough s**t...grow up.
Of course i have...your hijacking threads because you have a personal issue with another member....why don't you just pm him with the issues you have and stop trying to be the internet hard man....it's quite pathetic really.
Yes you did rocky but that doesn't surprise me.
I sometimes think you want London to be isolated.
I think this "us against the rest of the world" syndrome makes you feel more important
Do you understand how ridiculous that sounds?
In one sentence you both accuse me of pontificating on what should happen and not pontificating on what should happen.
I have made clear my opinion on whether the LDC should enter into immediate talks with Royal Mail which was the meat and bones of dingo's post.
What is it you want from me?...the way forward for the union in the 21st century?
The fact that i didn't answer your vague "what's the plan then" statement is because of both it's vagueness and the fact that it was clearly a childish throw away.
If you have any real questions i will be happy to give you my opinion for what it's worth although i don't think you are really looking for answers rocky just an opportunity for another cheap shot.
Your views on me
Some off them seem a little abusive to me

Re: London Dispute Update
As brothermagrew so polietly says can we move on, concentrating on one persons views, or trying to get a single members opinions is disrupting this thread. RMC tries to be inclusive and trying to get the answer you want hear, rather than the answer they want to give is pointless and destructive.

Agree with this, plus members should get a report on Wed/Thurs meeting.dvbuk55 wrote:For what it's worth the union should contact each and every member now with what it is they are actually negotiating on, how it affects them as an individual and how it affects the union if there is insufficient collective support for the issues. Stating what CWU asked for & RM reply within 2 weeks of meeting.
Members need to know what the aims of union are clearly if support of IA is wanted.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

Not for me to claim credit for this coming togetherdvbuk55 wrote:It is NOT the dark side, it might be a bit murky at times BUT this is the light side. Nothing is going to change the union structure any time soon and certainly not before I retire sooooooooooo in for a penny in for a pound - even if it costs quite a few poundsrockytony67 wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:Well it was a bit premature brothermagrew, but you are right. I wouldn't want to be excluded from a fight if it came to it, I'm a little bit sceptical that it is going to go the distance but if it does I would like to be on the gate for one last time....but they'd better get a move on. I would imagine that London will have to go out..................the problem is persuading offices like mine and many others that there is sufficient meat in the dispute for them to support it.brothermagrew wrote:Going by brother rockytony67 signature it would appear that the brother and I mean brother dvbuk55 has finally returned to the darkside. How would you proceed in the circumstances when there are so many part timers and so many who are no longer in the union, when the distrust of the union is almost as great as the distrust for RM?
Don't tell Rocky...........mind you it hasn't yet come to a national ballot but I rejoined anyway just in case:wave
Great news Dvbuk, welcome back to to the dark side
PS Note to Rocky and Fish, I'd be happy to mediate your dispute too?

, I did PM another member with the intention some weeks ago...........which he may or may not wish to confirm. My re-union, pardon the pun, was always my ultimate intention, having been union for almost 40 years. It does not mean my opinion of the union organisation or leadership has changed or that I believe it will change any time soon but any true socialist should be prepared to support the working class of which I am proud to be a member.

Re: London Dispute Update
For the record Royal Mail have requested the meetings there words is that they want to avoid a dispute. What does the CWU gain in refusing to attend the meetinngs. Our members who have voted yes will expect the CWU to try and resolve their issues.
Of course if Royal Mail do not agree to stop the next phase of the work going on the 6th June then notice will be served. So we will know this wednesday as it will be the first issue to be discussed. Are Royal Mail serious about these talks or not. If they refuse to do this then the talks wont last long.
The CWU has asked all Divisional Reps to contact the regional management teams as a matter of urgency to inform them of the contents of emergency motion E3 and E6. Part of E6 is to carry out the biggest consulation exercise ever undertaken by the CWU in asking lay members their views of the agreement thusfar and the impact of that agreement. Now some of that may be uncomfortable reading for both Royal Mail and the CWU. However its needs to be done and we will see the outcome and the next steps.
Now in terms of some of the comments on the ballot turnout , it was above the normal industrial action ballot turnouts including the RMT ballot results. It was a 9 day ballot turn around which perhaps could have been longer but we wanted to announce it at conference and have a serious debate on the next steps.
Whoever said that most people vote in the first 3 days is simply untrue. The mailing house who post the ballot papers do not normally send them all out at once especially in national ballots. Remember the tory government intorduced postal ballots on the basis that turn outs would be smaller then if you had work place ballots. What is certain is the vast majoirity of members take strike action if an office has voted yes regardless if they voted yes or not. In London the four offices which have been balloted hve always been solid in supporting strike action in the past. Due to the seriousness of the situration we can expect them o be even more solid in this dispute.

How long can you wait to get a definitive guarantee of no compulsory redundancies?
Surely those are the only words your members want to hear dingo?

It seems a strange way to go about not wanting confrontation, it certainly appears as if they have engineered it.dingo wrote:For the record Royal Mail have requested the meetings there words is that they want to avoid a dispute. "The lay members" - that seems a very strange way to describe the membership.

Re: London Dispute Update
Fishtank there words dont mean anything as their people plan is a sham. The only way we can be sure of avoiding no complusory redundnaces and transfers is that Royal Mail"s plan has to change. This means instead of closing two mail centres and reducing the remaining one they have to change the plan.
The CWU have given Royal Mail an alternative which would have seen one mail centre close along with the sale of the most prized property they own in Rathbone Place ( Just off Oxford Street ) We would also have more jobs where people live like Croydon and a joint perference excerise.
Dvbuk you make a good point. But what if some people have convinced the Chief executive that there would be not strikes and that they could resolve all the people issues and deliver a kings ransom for the business. You would expect most of Royal Mail to back them.
However the plan which they sold is now going pear shaped and a damaging strike is looming which the government are not happy about especially as the postal bill is due to go through parliment in June and the peoples plan is not work. What if Moya"s new right hand man John Duncan is now going to come into the talks putting a few other senior managers noses out.
Lets see how it plays out
