It may not suit some people, and it may not suit a 4 day week system especially with the provision of walk sequenced mail because the delivery span would be horrendous.
You've got CDV's how is it working for you, surely with a new revision with all the figures put into the mix and especially the large amount of part timers you have you would of made out of it?
Not really, we will lose 4 bulk duties because the new CDVs will be taking the large packets. The delivery spans are all over 4 hours for CDV deliveries and HCT deliveries. The new geo-route sorts out the delivery in what is, at face value, a logical way set on the parameters it's programmed for - they have not been installed yet but I doubt they will be changed now. I know I keep saying it but if you have a 4 hour+ delivery span, even on an 8 hour day, you just cannot find the indoor work to fill full time vacancies AND THAT IS BEFORE THE WSMs COME IN NEXT YEAR and that, I believe, will be my swan song. That is also when the late collection hybrid duties will be brought in to keep as many 8 hour jobs as possible I would imagine.

The walking deliveries with the HCTs are now down to 16, primarily because we have a large area, so there ain't much within a mile......................I should also add that the CDVs also have trolleys and so the walker will be taking much larger packets on BOTH that they would not have considered before. The van will only be taking the biggest.
Sorry,my point is everyone (on here anyway)practically has a mass amount of part timers and to say that a 4hr delivery when you add all the other bits on travelling, meal relief, pouching off, van checks that it is not possible seems to me to be wrong.

I just don't f***ing get what some of you are doing.

4hr walk,poss 30mins travelling time,10-15 mins pouching off,15+ mins van checks.
That there alone after you add on the 40 min meal break is nearly 6hrs!!
Now you have to IPS,prep your own walk AND part timers.

So where are you getting what you are saying from?

Ah! You are obviously presuming the part timers are going to be working a 5 day week - no no, like you only work a 4 day week, they will alternate on 3 day weeks to utilise all the hours, some will be on 30 hours and will work a 5 day week - without part timers you will find it difficult to extrapolate 2 blokes sharing a duty over five days but it works where they work a 10 hour day for two days and then a 5 hour day, the second guy takes over the delivery part after the first bloke has prepped it for his 5 hours and then works the next two days for ten hours - sound complicated? - well it isn't really, the 6th day is covered by the relief guy. Welcome to the real world :chuckle

You seem to think that these things are only going to happen if you like it, but the agreement is that the best practices will be across the board. Yes this is the revision in my office as it is proposed and it is almost certainly to be voted in to preserve jobs. Take a look at the proposed changes in the NE, where they have opted for longer deliveries to increase FT but lose jobs overall.

The absolute key to these revisions IS the indoor work, something which you cannot increase because it is beyond your control - copious cups of tea, snooker and endless meal breaks don't actually count with the new IWT - it isn't called the Indoor WORK Tool for nothing :cuppa

Still when the privatisation comes only the strong will survive :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

But,you've still only got just over 2hrs indoor work so why?

Well that is because that is all there is when it is divided between the staff. You cannot increase the quantity of indoor work it is quantified and the hours calculated on that quantity.

Some will be doing double prep, in fact there are quite a number doing it now, and more when the revision is up and running and that is before the WSMs sequence the mail.

When a part timer comes in the delivery will be all but prepared and with a meal break, travel out and back the delivery is just about all he does. The 25 hour part timers will work three days of 8h20m - it is proposed that they will work Thu, Fri, Sat - and at the moment that is a contentious issue, however in order to get 1 in 3 Sats off - for the majority that is - you know how it is, winners and losers.

The idea was to preserve full time jobs as for as possible and not lose staff. No idea what will happen when the machines come in, they will eat up more indoor work but they will need operators, how many and for how long?????????????????

I think the point of this is...if an 8hr duty is looking at a 4hr30min delivery span then a 10 hr duty can't possibly hope to hold at that.
How much longer is debatable but it will be longer because you can't hope to absorb the entire extra 2hrs indoor...there just isn't enough work no matter how many part-timers you have. :nervous

Well they didn't do too badly last time did they, 3.5 hours on an 8, 4 on a 10, so 30 minutes extra delivery produced 90 minutes extra prep time..................now that's magic.....................Debbie get me coat I'm moving darn sarf, it must be a slower pace of life :whistle

A question after a delivery methods revision and 20 hour & 25 hour staff do a 3 day week on a job share basically.
Now all outdoor del times are the same for Ft and Pt.
So you have 2 FT on a duty & 2 Pt on a duty and if it's 25 hour basically duties are identical.
Along comes WSM and all of a sudden the 2 FT have 2 hours less to do duty and the 2 PT 25 hour people have lost no time at all so therefore have 2 hours more to do the same work.
Have I got this right.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

Bingo gb93. That's why the indoor element is important and why it is going to be extremely difficult to maintain FT work, at least40/39 hours. The only way to protect full time work is to bring down the working week in the long term. So the NE losing jobs to make PT into FT is probably going to be a wasted exercise when the walk sequenced mail comes in.

The fewer FT required on IPS and lets face it that is hitting us in the here and now, then the more people available for double prepping. It is imperative that as much time as possible and as much work as possible is identified and added in. Too often in the past work that used to be part of a duty has been sacrificed to save hours for one reason or another, with luck most of that will be recovered and the additional hours required for callers duty needs to be added.
