I , as an ordinary postie have to call it as I see it.I am not privy too the machinations that go on between our Union and government but my instinct tellls me that privatisation is on the way.In which shape or form I dont know.If the Union can defend the situation a la Keep it Public all well and good, I will support them to the hilt, but I see the plan to hive off the Post Office network as a public entity a potential killer for public support towards the remainder.Modernisation only increases the attractiveness to potential suitors especially if the terms that the Regulator dictates were to change.I repeat and as a vox pop from opinions on this site the Union will have a job to persuade its members down the route of IA again in the near future.

dingo wrote:If any one believes that the CWU did not force the change in the Labour Governments decision then I suggust they read Peter Mandleson book. The extract is clear that Mandleson gave Gordon the way out and was angry with the CWU. Funny one thing which was revealed is that john Prescott was double agent on one hand he was saying to the CWU that he had Gordon"s ear and could help stop the sell off and then Mandleson states that he was in the end Mandleson only chief supporter of the sell off.

Now I must be carefull of what I say here but the Tories and Lib Dems see the sell off as a scource of a major cash injection , however there are a number of things which will frighten any protential buyer off , one is the CWU opposition , the second is the pension defcit and the 3rd is unfair compeitiion, and the fouth is that this agreement has to work to give any future buyer the confidence that management and the unions can introduce the full terms of the agreement without a strike or IR problems.

Now if you really wanted to get the right money for the sale then you have to resolve those 4 thing.

Lets just say that the Cons and Lib Dems are trying to do that and believe it or not have been a lot more open and listening then the Labour Government had been.

Lots of talking going on , and lots to come but the CWU have a plan a and a plan b and contrary to what some think on this site are a powerful force in any governments mind.
Hang on a sec,why would any private profiteer want to waste money investing in an industry that is doomed to fail ,cos we all know every communication will be done by email next week :chuckle

Bingo! There will be a drive by the buyer to hive off the lucrative sites when the market picks up or to hang on to them as a sure fire investment long term.
The union already has a sweetheart deal over 3 years whereby anything goes, with involvement and agreement of course, without recourse to industrial action.

Is an agreement good, because it's voted in?

Post by andy2007 »

Ok, first thing's first: Although using the likes of Hitler as an example is very extreme. I does proide a very well know example of a situation where people voted for what they thought was a good thing at the time, and it turned out worse than any of them could have imagined. Yes, obviously, no matter how bad things get from this deal, it will never compare with what hapened in Germany. but it is a valid example. :hmmmm

Now to practical matters: Many people didn't get to see the deal before the deadline for the vote. So all they had to go on, was the litrature they got through the post. So there are some, who will more than likley, have voted without all the facts. And it most likley explains why so many didn't vote at all (they weren't sure of the details of what they were voting on!).

This deal has already caused a lot of problems, because everything wasn't in place before it got in. Therefore, IMHO it's a bad agreement. :hmmmm

Personally, I voted against it (like everyone on here at the time, I DID get the opportunity to read it, and did so carefully). But as it was voted in, we're stuck with it. And I accept that. But it doesn't make it a good deal, does it? :hmmmm

The question is can we turn it into a good deal by the end of March 2013?

That will depend on who you're dealing with and who is doing the dealing for you :hmmmm

Personally, I doubt it. But I hope I'm proved wrong.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Vince Cable more reasonable than Peter Mandaleson....That sounds about right.

Ohh we have a Plan B now. This won't involve getting our terms and conditions back though will it!! not powerful enough for that.
