Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
Drivers have taken all SD items since SDD came in. Before that, when the guaranteed delivery time was 12:00pm, we used to phone the PHG direct to confirm any we took our on the second delivery. Back in those days, the foot postmen took any SDs on the first, but the drivers took them all on the second.
Since SDD came in, the drivers go out between 7am and 9am (give or take). Before PDAs, we used to have to attempt all SD's during that time, if possible. Which meant you had to go over the ground three times - once with the SDs (pulling in any packets where you could), once with the bags, and then finally with the packets you couldn't do earlier. At least now, with the PDAs, you can get everything done for each walk you cover in one go.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials (UPDATE)
We all had a WTL this week regarding phoning in Special Delivery’s before the 1 o clock deadline. The Office Manager has said we must use our mobile phone to confirm them, if you don’t want to phone in you can text in to the special mobile phone that is placed in the locker.
The Manager is willing to give you a £1.00 a week to cover your costs.
If you don’t have a phone the Manager wants you to go to a call box and reverse the charge. That’s breaking off from your walk to use those urinated boxes around Manchester.
Of course if the special delivery is near the end of your walk and past the deadline time, they don’t expect you to take it.
We all had to sign the work time learning sheet to say we have been briefed on this.
The union rep was at the WTL and said naff all, he should have said that’s not going to happen it’s the posties own personal equipment don’t even go there. But he kept stun.
I own a blackberry and I’m not going to take a £300 phone out of my pocket for confirming a special delivery.
They have changed the goal posts so its their problem.
Next day we had another meeting on the office floor. The Union rep asked the Manager if someone forgot, or the battery was down in their phone or a phone box not working what would be the consequences would it be down the conduct code road. The manager said depends how many times it happens to the same person.
But it’s a voluntary procedure this how can they conduct code you.
I think the union on here needs to get this across to their members it’s a big NO you don’t have to use your own phone…its bullying now….

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials (UPDATE)
If they are not going to change the spec for Special Deliveries (and they are not), then the only way forward is to take the bloody things off the walking posties and have drivers doing them, as already happens in some units.
All this crap about phoning in etc is the product of the lack of imagination of the twats that are supposed to be running this business on a day-to-day basis.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials (UPDATE)
this has been at my D.O for a while, they put a number up that was freefone, but not mobiles (fail),we all had access to a phonebox on duty, erm ,no (fail),we have an obligation to tell the manager before we go out that we will fail to deliver before 13.00 so it can be delivered by the DOM,result!!,he has to get off his fat hole & do them
I have to laugh at them ringing away on my mobile,as if they really expect me to pick it up,as if i can't see a shafting coming a million miles away,& get the "I was ringing your mobile, why did'nt you answer it"? COS IT AIN'T IN MY CONTRACT,THATS WHY,have to go boss,my time is up,overtime?,nah.shudda told me earlier

I think he meant that every delivery officer should have a PDA and that way there would be no need to phone anything in.Straight4ward wrote:wf wroteYou've lost me.Simple anwer is to put a pda in every postoffice counter - - - - that way no one will have to phone in

Thanks DGP1,
I thought I read or heard somewhere that they were looking at a new smaller, lighter version that us foot soldiers could cart about with us or was that just my imagination working overtime?

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials (UPDATE)
They brought this in at my office, I don't have a mobile phone with me on delivery so I can't phone in on it and there isn't a phone box near my walk that works. Walking posties should all be getting PDA's eventually
so that will solve this problem.
Park and loop won't work at my office, hell they won't even use pegasus at my office or they will have to create walks because of all the excess being cut from deliveries to make them workable in the eyes of pegasus.custard wrote:Straight4ward wrote:Thanks DGP1,
