I really fail to see how RM will benefit from HCT and Vans in my DO area. My delivery is within a mile and if I use a HCT instead of a bike I WILL take longer to do my delivery.
How do you use a bike on a small delivery, from my experience there is a tendency to wheel the bike along the pavement with the pouch in the front carrier and
take a small bundle at a time. For a small delivery it would fit in a HCT and requires no replenishment.
No probs fitting my del into a HCT, but once all the cycling sections are converted to walking it will take longer. Walking to and from delivery will add time unless Im expected to push a HCT at the same pace of cycling a bike?
I asked one of the planners working on the new delivery methods, what will happen to the duties via Peggys arse that were calculated
as cycle deliveries when they revert to van derived duties, surely they will have to be reviewed as they would take longer to complete.
Yes was the answer, but don't worry to much they will be back as cycle duties within 2 years.Which begs the question, what is the f..king
point in the first place.Although to be fair, it was only his opinion.
Could this wonderful management idea go the way of Starburst, and other bluesky thinking?

As I recall you said your delivery required no more than 15 mins travelling time in total and that your delivery was 0.5 miles at least and 0.8, was it, at most - all in all not a great distance to either cycle or walk. Many of our former cyclists now use an HCT by choice - and only those at the further reaches, an outlying village and satellite estates outside the general urban area use cycles. Some of these will be converted to park and loop when the roll out begins.
0.5 way out 0.8 way back furthest del point just over a mile
Im convinced that HCT for my del will wipe out any time savings from sequenced mail which rather defeats the purpose of sequenced mail giving us more time for delivery work.
I suppose the DOM would be able to order a HCT in for me?
Those using RM bikes for travel to and from work can get themselves on the cycle 2 work scheme, technically they are hiring a bike from RM so RM still giving them a biike.
The details are in the courier very month towards the back in the list of offers.
Should be details on this site somewhere
You hire a bike from RM which is sourced from Halfords and pay for it over 18 months. At the end usual practice is a £35 payment and the bike is yours to keep.

If you type "Cycle to Work Scheme" in the search field, (link at top of each thread and page) you get this http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... mit=Search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - 4 pages - hopefully answers will be forthcoming.

Think its been suspended for the moment while they update the system, I actually opened the scurrier this month (whilst putting it in the litter tray) and saw that
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:Had the WTL today. Basically said its trial and error. A local office was the 1st to try this and theyve had sokme cracking ideas how to sort the problems out - he`s going to get the DOM from that office and the rep , to come in and talk to us about it. Basically they didnt really know a lot - said they had a great idea how to put people into pairs, we have to have 1to1 meetings with the DOM
Theyre bringing in the walk revisions asap (next few weeks) adding 120drops min to every round. BUT everything else stays the same , 2hrs IPS, so how do we do an extra 120 drops ,prepped and delivered, aswell as our current round, and lapsing, and d2d etc etc , in the SAME time period ?? Then theyre bringing in Park n Loop , being done to the new rounds. Then in october we get walk sequencing , then the walks have to be re-done, then the loop thing has to be re-done. Are they fecking mental or what ?? Talk about going round in circles
Regarding FF - cluster dom said times stay the same , until walk sequencing commences and people with childcare issues will have to do nights at a mail centre as the walk sequencing will mean 40% start at say 9am and 60% start at 11am. I currently start @ 530am and get my kid @ 12:45, so how the hell will that work ?? I dont drive and aint doing nights for no one
JCL,What has your rep got to say about this?
Unless your DOM can see into the future would it not be best to wait and see what happens with the agreement?
Have you had any meetings regarding full-time/part-time ratios.
Any offices moving ahead with this now are surely in breach of the "interim agreement".
WOULD IT BE TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR SOME CLARIFICATION FROM HQ.
The truth! wrote:First things first there will be agreed guidelines for the introduction of car derived vans. Secondly some indivuduals who make a decison now that they wont drive a vechicle in the future may change their mind when they realise that will restrict what job they can do in the future.
Once an office has a delivery method revison and all offices will have one then there will only be 3 modes of delivery , 1, HCT , 2. Powered HCT or car dervived vans for walks further than a mile from the office. No other method of delivery will be allowed from then on. ie no bikes no HCTs past a mile or the use of private cars.
Now the way the guidelines propose things should happen is everyone is first asked the following questions on a one 2 one basis
Home address
current use of private cars on delivery
current travel arrangements to work
any disability or other significant needs
whether indivduals hold a driving lience
whether indivduals are willing to drive a Royal Mail vehicle
In addition the manager should also identify the following on a general basis
current availablity of private parking at the office
public transport arrangements to the office
parking availabiltiy near to the office
future availability of private parking on Royal Mail premises.
This information will assist in planning future solutions.
With regards to how duties will be allocated in future on car derived vans then the following is in Royal Mail`s guidelines.
1. Duties should be divided driving and non driving.
2. People covered by the DDA should be offered suitable duties as a priority in the process of the re-pick
3. Driving duties will be restricted to existing and volunteer new drivers and non -driving duties will be restricted to non -drivers only.
4. A driver is needed for every shared van pair. Only one non-driver can pick into a shared van duty pair.
5. Shared van partners without driving liences will be restricted to 50% or less of the total number of shared van partners.
6 The cover and leave reserve for the shared vans must be drivers to ensure that the van can be taken out each day
The guidelines also cover all the following
Matching people to job requirements
removal of support duties
Dealing with drivers who invalidate themseves from driving ie alchool or drugs , medical conditons or driving offences.
Shared van: people confilicts
Leave arrangements
retained van recovery and leave
Shared vans :vechile accountablity
Allocating employee to vehicles to be retained overnight
Staff no longer able to park private cars on site
There is a section where indivudual needs are taken into account and where pratical this can take be agreed.
WOW! I must have missed this post - also missed all the guidelines, duty allocation and all the other attributes when we started park and loop 15 months ago - the vans arrived before anyone had heard of park and loop - all hire vans and not liveried - so much for RM investment.
