Re: 10% drop in volume?
We in the 'do's' just usually see the mail in trays so don't realise that it's been trayed from the direct bags (that fall of the trucks) these are not going through royal fails machines but have already been walksorted by machines in large users premmisess (royal fail financed) while ours are suposedly idle for the best part of the day wise move from our astute leaders

RM can be a bit ? " selective " - more spin than a fairground rideaxeman wrote:We in the 'do's' just usually see the mail in trays so don't realise that it's been trayed from the direct bags (that fall of the trucks) these are not going through royal fails machines but have already been walksorted by machines in large users premmisess (royal fail financed) while ours are suposedly idle for the best part of the day wise move from our astute leaders

Re: 10% drop in volume?
I think its clear that RM have been fiddling the figures for ages.
Just look at what happened in Scotland and tell me hand on heart that its an isolated case.
In my office, for example, our budget is set based on a pegasus revision that hasnt even been implemented. The DOM stresses that pegasus should have been implemented last september so we are budgeting for it in any case. I ask you how can an office budget for a revision that hasnt been completed?
Spin on figures and budget is rife in RM; the pressure to make savings and claim huge bonuses will lead to fiddling. No question.

The same thing happened in my office but our Pegasus review was in the budget for 2 years before they pushed it in.pickaname wrote:I think its clear that RM have been fiddling the figures for ages.

I really don't think RM can be trusted on anything anymore, the breakdown of trust is now total and if my manager told me the sky was blue, I'd go outside to check for myself

Tman wrote:"Nothing to do with DSA" with regard to the common claim on here that mail volumes aren't dropping, it's just DSA is increasing.
False, of course, because DSA is still processed through RM automation and counted in the daily totals just like any other item of mail.
Why did the Courier state that all MC's were not counting all mail? and as i have said before, is an uncancelled letter still counted?
CUT OFF!!!

Deads aren't dead until they've already been processed through the system, so they've already been counted.
Letter totals aren't recorded (for the purposes of the overall throughputs) at the cancellation stage either, as so much mail now by-passes this stage.

Re: 10% drop in volume?
I've said it before, RM changed the way mail was counted a couple of years ago, around about the time that mail volumes started to fall

Re: 10% drop in volume?
We used to count it in DOs - we are not allowed to now - no link because they don't put that information on the 'net.Tman wrote:Any link to this assertion?disgruntledpostie1 wrote:I've said it before, RM changed the way mail was counted a couple of years ago, around about the time that mail volumes started to fall

(ii) Traffic volumes
The activity based costing system makes extensive use of traffic volumes to assign costs to products.
Operational traffic methodology, based on sampling at mail centres, has been used as the basis for measuring inland stamped and metered traffic volumes. This approach involves determining traffic in the workplace by machine counting or by counting numbers of containers and applying statistical techniques.
Royal Mail recognises that there are inadequacies in the current traffic measurement and statistical procedures for stamps and meter traffic and has ongoing initiatives to improve the processes.
Non stamp and meter traffic i.e. “account traffic” volumes are sourced from billing or track and trace systems.
International traffic volumes are determined by applying a statistically derived “items per kilo” to the weight of mail carried to international destinations.

Re: 10% drop in volume?
Whatever they used to count in DOs had no bearing on the national measurement of traffic. That comes from AI and it's associated data collection systems in the MCs.
