Re: 9% Letter Volumes Fall Further 9%
We had a WTL a few months ago, and the dom mentioned that he put in a report to have the mail volumes checked,as the amount of mail the MC told him he was receiving seemed to be much lower than the volume of mail that was going through the DO, don't know what checks he'd made to come to this conclusion, but as dom's do he felt pretty sure of himself. Em maybe thats why they moved him.

I think Tman you need to spend a couple of years in a DO!
I've never said that "my bag is heavier therefore i must have more mail, although that logic is sometimes true" this is about the number of items i am having to deliver, 1200 items is more than 1100 items, so its an increase, wether it be stamped or dsa the volumes are still there and are showing no signs of reducing. And not all dsa mail is counted as stated in the courier a few months ago!

No thanks, but what would that prove anyway?Phantom"]I think Tman you need to spend a couple of years in a DO!
Posties work hard? I know that already, but the debate is about the reduction in mail volumes not how many items you take out.

Unfortunately that's the sort of muddled thinking which has led to the belief that RM/Postconn/CWU/God's dog is lying whenever the reduction in mail volumes is mentioned.

Sadly that muddled thinking has come direct from your previous post - please look at it again, before you tell me I'm wrong ( I'm not saying that to have a dig, just a straight answer )Tman wrote:Unfortunately that's the sort of muddled thinking which has led to the belief that RM/Postconn/CWU/God's dog is lying whenever the reduction in mail volumes is mentioned.
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Re: 9% Letter Volumes Fall Further 9%
Seems clear enough to me Smokerjim.
Enough DO posties have said (whenever this subject surfaces) that they carry much more flats, magazines, packets, etc etc than ever, and that walks have been revised or modified so posties are carrying as much, if not more, than they ever did before. No arguments there, but the thread was about the 9% fall in letter volumes, so---
So if you have less to sort I have more to deliver?
is too simplistic and the connection too tenuous to be used as a rebuttal of RM's statement.

It must've been my imagination this morning
strange that I left 1½ hours today and was still was over by an hour (whenever I was leaving there was at least 15 people still out delivering), so where is all this mail coming from, everyday for the past 4/5 weeks I've had to cut off/leave mail behind and I'm supposed to believe that mail volumes are down...........................even the MC can't sort all the mail because we're getting more and more down that needs sorted (which means that everybody gets called to IPS and that has a knock on effect by everybody cutting off, claiming OT).

Re: 9% Letter Volumes Fall Further 9%
Years ago it used to come in a big bundle addressed to the delivery office. The bundle was left by the signing on sheet for staff to pick up. After a few days, the bundle was placed in the bin. Even the 'managers' didn't bother with it. That's why they now send the useless piece of crap directly to your address. Mind you, most of them still end up unopened in the bin if our office is anything to go by.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: They would save millions by making the courier available online and not sending out a hard copy.

Volume of mail down yes that is correct! wait before you yell, stamp mail is down which is where tman is right in what he says, the thing is DSA mail is up by 46%,packet traffic is up by 6%,flat traffic is up by 2.5%, i think that was the figures we were given.
Our DOM did the same as you have all had in WTLL" the mail volume are falling" "so we have to alter the work load because the out door element is just not there",the up shot of this is they have taken so many hours out now and now started this knocking down of so many walks, taking SA's out so nobody does sorting o/t anymore.the office has become to a grinding halt.
The quality of service is so bad now that it is embarrassing to work there, walks are now being blown out staff have been suffering with the bully tack ticks and now they are counting drops on your walk if you can not finish your walk and refusing to stay out to finish the walk, the union have a full time job just trying to keep up with these managers that think it is so cool to be a nasty person, all of this has been bought in even if the union have said other wise.
So far the knock down of walks has resulted in the walks being done by other staff because staff just have not got got the time to fit all the work in and still we have managers using the mail volumes are down so the work volume outside is not there, thing is if you look at all the figures and the supposed down turn in mail it still does not equal the figures that managers are coming out with.so your guess is as good as mine but hay lets all stick together and not argue the toss we are all as good as each other and i'm sure that we all work as hard as each other.

DSA mail being up by 46%; that 46% is a percentage of the market, (or total mail posted in the UK), not in addition to the existing or usual RM mail. Overall (whether DSA, stamped, etc) mail volumes are still well down on what they were.
Anyway (for about the three-hundredth time of repeating it) DSA mail is counted just the same as any other mail in the daily automation totals.
