TNT’s proposal

TNT’s proposal to Her Majesty’s Government is to enter into discussions on a strategic partnership with Royal Mail with the objective to reach agreement on key terms and conditions for a substantial minority shareholding. TNT’s proposal assumes the implementation of the key recommendations of the Hooper Commission that are instrumental to a sustainable future for Royal Mail.

i would hazard a guess at 49% in preparation for outright control within 5-10 years ala BT,as we all know they wont come into this 'strategic partnership' without being offered sweetners,what form these sweetners take,well a nod and a wink,behind closed doors will be good enough if they can get their hands on Royal Mail assets,
as to the 2nd phrase,watch out for a major union busting operation over the next few years,a unionised workforce is the last thing that these two want.

It's called asset stripping ,partial privatization will see TNT being given for next to nothing MC's,RDC's and network distribution in return for a promise to invest in new plant. And why wouldn't they they will have the monopoly ,they will up prices, they will refuse to subsidize other DSA providers and they will refuse to pay the proper rate to a publicly owned delivery section. It is yet another clearly corrupt seizure of a public asset. Lets hope that there is a clear and public commitment from all involved in making this decision that they will make no personal profit from this, now or at any future time ,either directly or from any linked involvement with the beneficiaries ,not a chance

They cannot be allowed to get away with this and we must be prepared to stand up and fight the government NOW!

There has clearly been lobbying by Leighton,Crozzier and others to allow TNT in through the back door.

This is an organisation that has been undemining Royal Mail for years and now have nearly succeeded in achieving their long term objective being the take over of Royal Mail from within.

The assets of Royal Mail are OUR assets and we cannot let these theiving gangsters take them from under our noses.

The union's response has been as usual a quiet acceptance and a muted whinge at most but what should we expect from them?

It is up to us now as only we can organise the necessary fight needed to see off Mandleson and TNT,we are on our own now.

I really thought the union would react quite fiercly after today's announcement, but what did we see? Billy Hayes slumped in a newsroom chair and he couldn't even be bothered to speak clearly. Not impressed.

There was no reaction to the priavte shareholding remarks, not a jot.

I hope there will be no buyers who are interested in investing in Royal Mail just to see Government's plans in chaos.

I never would have thought i would see the day when a labour government would privatize a national service as such this!. It is no labour party i want to be affiliated with anymore!. It is time the CWU leadership woke up smelled the coffee and pulled the plug on this backstabbing party of the rich and infamous and corrupt!. We know who our friend's in old labour are we can support them but you only have to look at the empty seat's after the announcement when the debate began!. LET'S PULL THE PLUG ON FUNDING NEW LABOUR!.

What can a company like TNT , do to make RM profitable that cant be done by RM management as it is now.For TNT to want to invest they must see a way to make money. If it is the case that RM can be made profitable, keep it in the public sector so that the public coffers get the rewards. Why give profits to a bunch of cloggies.The thing about the DSA being insignificant really wound me up, because obviously it is totally relevant.

Don't think there clogies it all started in oz as T homas, N ationwide, T ransport have no idea who owns them presently or indeed still owned from down under ?

The thing that i am worried about is our management are so sh*t you could take a fastfood section manager and but with a few exceptions (and we have one!) they would do as well if not better by listening, taking on board and acting in a very ltd fashion what we all know as truth cause it gets the job done for the best of both RM and OPGs. NOW THATS A WORRY!

Mate i realize how incompetent some of the RM managers are, turning the company round is quite possible from within without outside intervention.The bloke delivering the speech kept swatting away any suggestion that DSA was in anyway responsible for falling profits. On the frontline on delivery we work like dogs, yet all they do is want more savings. There are no more savings to be made on delivery, and im afraid amalgamating mail centers and investing in machinery seems like the way to go.
