It is completely wrong to call non drivers any form of name, they are the same grade and pay as drivers.

BUT, facts are facts - non drivers do not fit into the way the postal delivery service is performed now. It might have been the norm 20 years ago, but things change and as we all know it is a very different postal delivery service we have now.

Both drivers and the company have to work around non drivers - either by giving them reasonably local walks, or by covering large parcels on their behalf, finding another driver (sometimes by moving a driver from their own duty) to accompany them on a van share if the regular driver is sick or on annual leave, etc.

Non drivers have no responsibility of vehicles, risk of personal insurance increases if they have a bump in an RM van, no signing vans in or out, no vehicle checks, no being held legally responsible if a vehicle with an illegal defect is caught on the road.

Hence why I have always said that extra responsibility should carry extra remuneration.

I think the reason that there is no extra remuneration for staff that drive, is that no matter how they dress it up, it would look like a pay cut for staff that don't drive. Very few, if any staff that don't drive have under 10 years service, so you'd have the very real prospect of a 'driver' who has gone through their year or so probation, if they work 37 hours per week (30 contract, plus 7 on OT for instance) earning more than a non driver with 30 years service.

Just to point out that breaks that rules and you, yes you, have made it easier to sack you if anyone has identified your real identity.

We keep warning members but some just seem willing to destroy RoyalMailChat and their own employment.

I notice you ignored the part about why the rules are there to protect you from Royal Mail sacking you and to stop Royal Mail from closing RMC down.

If you don't think Royal mail can sack you then check the early days of this forum, about 20 people were sacked for posting on here, and I was suspended for a few weeks when they tried to close RMC down.

You can disagree with whoever you want as long as it does not break the rules.

That is an ironic reply. How is it a pay cut for someone not doing certain things that the others are doing?

It is so funny that back in the days, there was a driving allowance for exactly the same reason but all others did not see it as a pay cut...

You can even take it further that the CWU should be backing Royal Mail that wants to pay off historic allowances where the current postmen doing the same job are not receiving an augment to their pay. You can have 2 people in the caller's office doing the same job but paid differently.

So many that I have met in Mail centres getting PHG allowances and all sorts for just being able to operate a machine or clean one but they have not done such jobs in 15-20 years.

The CWU are an enigma!

Even when I work with fellow drivers, I end up doing many more tasks than the other person. Our vans are packed off site; so that is at least 10-15 extra a day. Van checks, parcel drops (loops are not specific to walkers or driver's). Van checks. Very often loading. And most of my fellow workers gets dropped off at off site packing areas or they take their cars to a starting point.

+ The other issues highlighted - including being hassled by idling or speeding or van checks.

* The stress of our loading bay can be unbearable at times in the morning; in a tight close with customers and posties jostling for positions on that small length and width of road.

* This is not bashing non-drivers. It is just to highlight the difference!

Of course there is a difference between the types of work and extra responsibility, I've just given my view as to why the union won't fight for different rates/allowances for driver/non driver. Any pay increase given to a driver but not to a non driver cuts their potential earnings.

Government own website - postie posted it on workplace the other day ... But, has anyone considered that, besides natural wastage, the redunancies, if there are any, could come from splitting letters and parcels - if letters go 5 day week service, Thompson won't need reserves!

You mean he won't need floats.

We haven't had floats at our depot for 2 years.

I wish they'd just hurry up and go to a 5 day postal service, what's taking them so long. Go to a 5 day postal service, Saturday and Sunday deliveries and give us an 8% pay rise or 6% and a £1000 lump sum.

Possibly they'd want to kill three birds with one stone. Don't forget the first critical step for them would be to go

Of course I know it's not just about pay!! What the hell do you think we're talking about??? The reduction in the USO, which isn't one of the things we're fighting for this time around, as far as I'm aware... Unless you're privileged enough to be privy to information no one else is!

It will be Saturday. If anything I find Tuesday busier than Monday now.
