Tuesday is the lightest day of the week in our office, but mine wasn't too great. Finished at 1.30pm with a bag full of parcels, packets, recordeds, and a special, to take back. Wasn't very impressed.

I've been out for the afternoon and on my way back I've just passed 4 of my colleagues still delivering. They must be f***ing desperate for the cash. Revision for that section is'nt even in yet, gonna be fun from the 29th.

3hrs and 15 minutes today. Did hear along the grapevine that a neighbouring office went live with the revision yesterday and it's gone tits up.

Ah well, day off tomorrow.

Not the best day but the fog didn't help. JUst about 3.5 hours today.

I love all these posting saying that they're out for 3-3.5 hours, I was out for 5 1/2 hours today and I thought that was an easy day.

A lot of people are going really struggle when they're asked to do much longer duties.

.......... but i think even you would agree that there's a big difference between a 3.5 hr. walk and a 5.5 hr. van delivery

I dream for those 3.5 hour duty (it's been years since I had one) and being in a van only really provides a mobile pouch drop.

That's my point, you decide how much to carry on your shoulder. At the end of the week you're gonna be in a better physical condition than the "walker" ......... and you're both working the same weekly hours.

I'm just a wee bit fecked off right now....and it's nowt to do with work

Basically local housing association ( yes, I'm a schemie ) arranged to do a gas safety check on the 1st, when matey didn't turn up, the wife phoned & they said "Sorry, we couldn't do it due to sickness"

Not happy ( cos the gas system shuts down when you leave it for too long & the wife has artritis....let alone how happy I will be getting up at 4am, in -4 temp, or coming home to an uncooked meal ), but sh*t happens, y'know?

It was re-arranged for this afternoon ( 2 days left ), and they called this morning to say they still can't cover, but they'll send a man round to fiddle the timer & give us some extra days ( grrrrrr

), no ETA or anything, so stuck indoors ( when we wanted to go shopping ), and all we got was a no show, so the wife phoned again, and yes they will be treating it as an emergency, but it will be Thursday at the earliest ( WTF!!! That's shut down +1 day - and my wife has made it crystal clear 2 weeks ago that she has arthritis & can't hack cold weather ).

However, I'll be phoning Simpson Millar about a work related matter tomorrow, and I'll get their opinion on this ( if they can offer one ), and the CAB website has been helpful too, by suggesting we get the Council to kick their arse ( "Hello, Sevenoaks Council, Health & Safety Executive....how canj I help?

Any one in the North West heard anything about the rumor that Warrington is using a 'tent' to sort packets in because there isn't enough room in the place?

Nice to see that the co-operation and harmonization of 318's between the functions of processing, distribution and delivery is going well.

With all the helpful investment in new machines, new ways of working and centralisation of processing and distribution functions, we have managed to go back to the good old days.

Back to the days of when the mail conveyed by coach & horses got delivered quicker than it does now!

Time to ask your boss for a torch, not for the 1st delivery ( remember those 07:00 starts on your walk), but for when your walking around at 19:00 at Christmas. While your at it, you can ask him for some body amour, a panic alarm and a German Shepherd to protect you from the gangs of 'hoodies' hanging around the shops you deliver to in those dark dull evenings.

Ever wondered why drivers have a security posty riding with them on afternoon collections?
That doesn't need an answer, so when are we getting one on the walks? :lfo

Today I had a Recorded Delivery for a bloke - Professor Whatsname.
Can you print and sign please at no. 2 please?
So he neatly prints Professor Whatsname. (Takes about 5 minutes)
Underneath instead of signing he writes (very neatly) 12.25pm 17/11/2010
I need you to sign.
So he signs across the boxes for 3 and 4.
Then he holds on to my Priority Services book because he thinks that is what he has signed for.

I was tempted to ask what he was a Professor of. (Twitology was my guess)

Thats very true DGP1.... that's unless of course people can find a way to fiddle their duties to how they want them...... you know who you are

Was quite a long day today. Mail wasn't particularly heavy, but packets were bad. Walk took me 3 hrs 50 minutes, got back at D.O. at 1.40pm, had a bag bursting with returns and write-offs.

I would like to thank the person for prepping my walk........over 30 miss-sorts, only marked up some of the packages and didn't do any D2D's. House number 120 with number 12 in pile etc

Planned around 1 bag drop off point, only to be told after I had bagged up they didn't have the key, so only 5mins away but when walking to and from what should have been 5 times would equate to 50mins downtime(left 2 n half bags tho so only had approx 20 mins wasted)

No time to read the 'walk' folder-1st time on that walk
Every f*cker seemed to be out today so plenty of returned parcels
Got told to make own way back to depot because I cut-off....hmmmm, if I knew the area,bus route etc had been told in my interview this would be expected of me, I would have told them where to go. So you use your OWN PHONE, if you use your own car(I don't) you pay your OWN petrol, OWN bus. insurance, if you get a bus back you pay too???

To top it off, the manager did pick me up, but told me he wasn't very happy with what I had left. Told him that might be a 3.5 hour walk to a experienced postman who knows the route. I am new, don't know the walk, drop offs etc and that it is busier than when they did the 'timed walk'. Also as I was half bagged up, I had a full bag parcels n flats dropped off to me.......not my fault some idiot put it in the wrong frame/frame is misprinted. But yeh, silly old me has to go through sorted mail and waste yet more time.

Left it by telling the manager I wasn''t very happy with his planning

So no extension to my 3 1/2 month contract
