Well it's not guaranteed to be accurate.

A 40% share of the vote, which is rather different.
A bigger percentage than the 37% of the electorate who voted for Brexit, which is proclaimed as 'the will of the British people'.

Sadly over many years less and less members return their papers resulting in less than 60% voting thus on close calls it does not give a true reflection of opinion. So please it costs nothing return your ballot paper, after all your subscription paid for it.
If it was a hypothetical 100% turnout the vote could still be 50:50.
Who'd claim the moral high ground then?
Tman,
it's looking more like 85 : 15
Don't think this board is indicative of the whole workforce though !
I think when it comes to a strike ballot it's pretty indicative of those who will vote, those who don't vote have decided to surrender their voice so it's pretty stupid anyone else trying to speak for them.

What about striking for half a day at a time every other day, rolling on all functions. I reckon that would cause complete and utter chaos within a couple of weeks and we wouldnt lose that much cash?

Unfortunately there is case law where if you take part day strike action the employer can take a full day's pay. We found this out in 2009 when after the first couple of half day actions in delivery Royal Mail went to court and would have taken a full day's pay if we took 4 hours of strike action. So we reverted to taking full day's strike action. The laws an ass !

This strike by binmen in birmingham at the moment includes 2 hour stoppages. Surely they wouldnt do that if they lost a whole days pay?

It's up to the employer whether they take a full day's pay. Birmingham Council might still decide to do that. If they don't it is probably because they know the binmen will then strike for full days.

If I were to take a wild guess I'd say that circa 45% of the letters that i deliver are where RM is getting used as the 'last mile' to deliver for other companies. None of these would get delivered either in the event of a national strike.
All this nonsense about a strike leading to RM losing jobs - where exactly is the work going to go ?
I've heard it all before.

LOL - yeah, they'd need to employ Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome to ride them as well. Cos where I am the last mile is actually the last 200 miles.
