Probably for sentimental reasons the title United Kingdom would still stand for the union of England, Wales and Northern Ireland but to be pedantic the term United Kingdom originally relates to the union of the two kingdoms and crowns (Scotland and England), Wales at the time being a principality (only since 2012 a country) and Northern Ireland simply a province.

So the Countries of England, Wales & the province of Northern Ireland, if combined as a whole for sentimental reasons, would all look somewhat statistically warmer?

Whether the vote is yes or no on Thursday, how are you going to heal the divisions in your society that this referendum has opened up?

The union has been ruined. A NO vote will see us take further steps towards separation regardless whilst a yes vote will send us over the cliff. Since the referendum debate started there has been constant bickering and conflict between Westminster and the nationalists and this animosity will only increase when all the issues raised on this forum and more will come to the fore. A UK government would face press and public pressure to take a firm line with an independent Scotland and there would be plenty of braveheart opportunities for the egotist Salmond.
Political conflict will result in social tension and division , it is happening already , and the economic disaster that is coming will only make matters worse.
This is the tragedy of our times. For those south of the border honestly if you had asked the question should Scotland become independent prior to the Scottish parliament then the answer would have been an overwhelming no. This was a united kingdom. We did vote for the parliament, true, but you must remember its creation was supported by the three main parties ( labour on the back of a landslide) and most of the press whilst the unpopular tories were left to resist. Furthermore it was sold as giving greater local representation whilst we would still be governed very much from Westminster. The parliament was constitutional suicide.
The nationalist rise has come about as a direct result of this. So far the dark side has been largely hidden , its all flags and posters and smiles but the bigotry and racism is not far from the surface .Even years ago If you were to drink in a local bar and England lost a goal the whole place would erupt spontaneously. In many minds they are still fighting the battles of centuries ago. This is not an environment that you would want to introduce the poison of political nationalism.
I have seen this coming for many years but still there is a sense of shock and unease. I really don't think many of the yes campaigners get the implications of an independent Scotland just as many did not see the implications of the parliament. There is trouble coming for sure. Please vote no , it wont fix things but it will at least slow things down a bit. And lets try to stop defining ourselves as "scots" and "English" so much I mean judge people as people who really cares where they are from. Salmond does not speak for "the Scottish people" half of us want nothing to do with him or his childish, delusional nonsense.
