Safeplace and a photo on the PDA should only ever have been used when one was specified on the label or via an inflight instruction.

All of the unofficial "safeplaces" that we have used for years can no longer be used as there is no proof that it was asked for.

................
So I guess that to ensure that this procedure is strictly adhered to, RM will ensure that the PDA software will only
allow the safeplace option that is on the label or the inflight instruction then?

I doubt it.......

If everything is really going to be photographed well it's not going to be very popular amongst the customer, yes I know it's the sender who is a paying customer but those receiving items may get and in fact some will get fed up and will try to avoid Royal Mail. Also it's gonna be interesting. They want to increase efficiency but at the same amount of redeliveries will shot up. We will have to handle same items multiple times and the callers office may be in for a shock. I can see these angry customers queueing and one poor bloke in CSP trying his best to bust the queue. I almost forgot it will almost certainly cost royal mail money as they will face a choice pay OT or deal with the cut offs. This may well be an end to ghost OT and this will definitely cripple offices across the country.

Looking forward to taking a nice close up of the staffy just before it bites my face off. This is a really unsafe practice being introduced for those dodgy areas with dangerous dogs. I have several addresses where after knocking with a parcel I make sure I’m right up the path and behind the gate as I know what’s coming. I’ll not be risking myself to take a picture of some boohoo shite.
The FAQ from our superiors on this issue is pretty shocking. Through a shut door we have to explain we have a parcel, have to tell them to put their dog elsewhere....don’t know about the rest of you but I struggle to get the behind the door lurkers to understand the word ‘parcel’ let alone having to give them step by step instructions. And we are even advised to shut the customers door ourselves (hang on, I thought the customer was the sender?!!). IMO the FAQ should advise us in this situation to do 1 of 2 options - either inaccessible the parcel, or there should be a ‘dangerous situation’ feature whereby you can’t take a photo without placing yourself in danger.

Official FAQ:

Never accept a customer’s assurance that the dog won’t bite.
• Rattle the gate to warn a potential dog of your presence.
• Ring the doorbell, step back and wait until the customer opens the door and request for the dog to be closed inside
• Ask the customer to secure their dog before they open the door.
• Step well back from the doorstep to maintain a safe distance. Beware of customers opening the door when you return to retrieve any parcels that have not been collected.
• If the customer leaves the doorstep to retrieve ID, close the door to create a barrier.
• Leave the property if you think the dog could be loose.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

That would involve joined up thinking and this is RM :left:

More likely we'll get a voice like the handbrake one when we tap not delivered, "please ensure you try a neighbour before tapping submit"

Don’t understand what was wrong with the current safe place system ? Why can’t it continue the way it was ?

Customer not in - put packet in shed/ garage/ etc - take photo as proof - job done

Surely it’s just the same as taking a photo with their door open ?

How/why would this end ghost OT?

It will be taking ages to get everything done. Writing cards slows you down massively. I suspect many people will stop as it will add considerable amount of time especially during packet heavy days/months.

If their door is open then surely they are in attendance whereas if parcel is safeplaced the customer is not.

Not saying you have done wrong as I do it myself, but that wasn't the correct current Safeplace system. Safeplace on the PDA should only ever be used when it has been requested

But unless you deliver in an area with an high crime rate who follows those rules?

I can't understand why this hasn't been trialled in one office to see if it's feasible, if we do all now follow the rules form tomorrow I can see our customers will be in for a shock when they get home to find the parcel's not been left in their usual agreed safeplace but is back at the DO.

The only safe place option is if it flashes up on the PDA however its at your disrection and if it goes missing, gets damage, customer puts complaint in even tho youve done as requested you are the one that has given rm proof what youve done and you will be out of the door.

Most of my safeplace that come up on pda are 'behind bin' or 'in garden', am i going to that at any point when it could get rained on, mr burgler come along and look behind bin? I think not.
If it's come up on PDA then you can do it, as they sign that RM take no responsibility if lost, stolen or damaged when using your confirmed"safe place"

For reference...
The majority of covid test use a qk code and these have been excluded. If they use a different barcode range then photos will be required.

And why are peeps crying, elsewhere, that they now have to bring stuff back as they can't use their 'not procedure' safe place anymore.
