Any possibility that at the same moment, the postie bumped into the Amazon guy as he arrived, saw he had a parcel for the same house, scanned it and then passed it to the Amazon guy, trusting him to deliver it with the Amazon package?val33 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021, 17:17Just had a very weird case, I'm totally baffled.
I was expecting 2 Amazon parcels today, one sent with Amazon logistics (their own network) and one sent with Royal Mail. The Royal Mail one had a valid tracking number (PY XXXXXXXXX GB).
Both parcels were delivered by an Amazon guy in his own van - the Royal Mail one (which only tracks/updates on delivery) then tracked on the RM website as "Delivered by XXX North Delivery Office" (my local DO).
If Amazon delivered the parcel, how do they update the RM tracking system ??

Re: Amazon
That's literally the only scenario that would make sense, but our post normally comes around 3pm and the Amazon delivery came at 11am.goneaway wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021, 22:55Any possibility that at the same moment, the postie bumped into the Amazon guy as he arrived, saw he had a parcel for the same house, scanned it and then passed it to the Amazon guy, trusting him to deliver it with the Amazon package?val33 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021, 17:17Just had a very weird case, I'm totally baffled.

Re: Amazon
I'm not sure they skim. When a customer gets to the checkout page, they several get delivery options. If you pick the cheapest and slowest, it might be the RM option. If you select some kind of express option, which costs more, they'll get a courier (maybe a big name or self-employed man & van) to deliver to the door. As for marketplace traders, if it isn't a fulfilled by Amazon account, they most likely use the normal postal network. I got a DVD delivered the other day but because my local DO was hit by Covid, nothing got delivered for weeks. I contacted the seller and asked him where he posted it. He said Holloway Post Office. It was hand stamped with a hand written address when it finally arrived. There's a lot of small online outfits who just use Amazon as a platform rather than use their own website. I'd say a fair amount of the Amazon stuff that goes through RM is just cheaper delivery option stuff. At the MC I've been working at. They wheel in the sleeved Yorks of the dock marked Amazon - they're either tracked 24 or 48 - and they get sorted on the PSM most of the time. If they're manual sorted, they don't get priority. First class/24 mail sacks get put on the belts first.Mr Rush wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021, 19:54Amazon as a vertically integrated retailer desperately needs to be broken up. You said it yourself, they skim the best parts and dump the scraps on us. We've got the obligation of providing a universal service; which, when compared to the other operators making megabucks off feudal contracts and atrocious working conditions, artificially makes Royal Mail look like an eternally failing company.ScrapAngard wrote: ↑23 Jan 2021, 18:34They're Amazon Marketplace deliveries. They're from online traders who use the Amazon platform. They pay RM postage just like everyone else but the label has Amazon on it because the trader just prints it out from their order. If it's specified day delivery or express
that the customer selects, it will go through Amazon's own logistics or a courier. In a nutshell, it's keeping RM in business because the letters side has been decimated because of email and paperless billing.
By the way, Amazon is probably a small percentage of online shopping packets. Asos, Very.com, Next, Lush, The Book Depository and a ton of others use RM directly.

Because I live in a town 99 times out of 100 it'll be one of their own vans delivering stuff to me. Occasionally they use DPD.
Maybe if someone is an Amazon Prime member it might make a difference as to who delivers an item

They're failing work then. Once mail reaches the inward MC it's ALL FIRST CLASS.ScrapAngard wrote: ↑29 Jan 2021, 14:17I'd say a fair amount of the Amazon stuff that goes through RM is just cheaper delivery option stuff. Re: Amazon
Amazon will take us over, and when the do we should bend over and be willing. Look at their stock, it is best hope for RM for the future. I would happily live in my van in the car park of the distribution centre just for a shot at climbing up the Amazon ladder.

Amazons is being forced through because they have no Union, also its in America where the rules are different, and its harsher by many factors.
So, on the surface, it may look similar, but in reality its nothing like the same.

My round is a rural which is 42 miles long per day. I don't wear my seat belt for any of it. I just took this as being part of the job. If I had to fasten my seat belt and not look at mail on the passenger seat for the entire round it would probably take me twice as long to deliver.

What a silly comment. Putting your seat belt on takes less that 2 seconds. Even if you did it 300 times thats still only 10 minutes.

If ever spotted by the police he'd get fined for not wearing a seatbelt and if he's got mail on the front seat, IB would probably rip him a new oneaiden01 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2021, 08:15You don't wear a seat belt have you got a death wish?Munchboii wrote: ↑24 Mar 2021, 22:35My round is a rural which is 42 miles long per day.
